Shows like All in the Family and The Jeffersons stopped taping in front of a live audience and instead after the show was taped it was played back to a studio audience for live responses ..maybe the same applied for later tapings of Good Times?

No that wasn;t it, GT was already taped in front of a live studio audience. It was just nothing to jump up and down about anymore, especially since James and Florida was not in season 5
