Default Question about the Rita Moreno episode

I just watched this episode with Rita Moreno on the Season 2 set. The episode is called Empty Nest, and most of it takes place in Rita's house, and it looks just like Dr. Weston's house. Even the next door neighbor guy from the Empty Nest show appears. Was this an early experimental Empty Nest crossover/spinoff episode that didn't work out? I think I heard once they wanted to give Rita Moreno a GG spinoff series, but I'm not sure.

I have to say this is my very least favorite episode of GG. I thought it was a crudy episode to end a season with. It did play like an introductory episode to a series that might have started the following fall.

Good Lord, this has been answered again and again. You should really try the search engine on here. You would have found your answer...

Yes, it was a spin-off attempt for Empty Nest. However, it's obvious that the format didn't work, so it was redesigned into what we all now know as Empty Nest. The wife (RM) was killed off, Charlie went from being a pilot to a cruise ship employee, and there were two (well, three) daughters on the show.

Forgive me for not knowing all of the dark and mysterious secrets of The Golden Girls. I guess I have offended the mighty GG message board clique here.

try not to take it personally, but i would have to agree that u should have looked before making that post, it has been answered many times over and everyone knows its a given that that episode was meant to be a spin-off series pilot (aka Empty Nest).

Whew!! Seventies, I wan't to take it upon myself to say sorry for that nasty response you got for your question, I watch The Golden Girls a few times a day, and even I didn't know the answer, or, I would have responded, sometimes I wonder why some of us are so nasty to each other. The world would be a much better place if we all just take a deep breath and TRY to get along well with others!!!!

Well, technically speaking, though it was the same actor, he wasn't playing Charlie. None of the characters were the same. They just rewrote the show. It wasn't so much that they killed of Rita Moreno's character. We just never heard from them again. Harry Weston and his gang were completely seperate from the cast of characters from the group in the original pilot. Though both Harry and Paul Dooley's characters were doctors.

IMO, that episode has to be one of the worst episodes of TGG's. It was horrific! Here is something weird - in one of the scenes when RM and TGG's are sitting in TGG's living room, I swear to god that RM flubs up and calls Dorthy "Darcy!" It is quick, but listen for it.

I never realized that. I'll have to check that out later. Darcy is my sister's name. and you don't see too many people with that name.

I notice in the season 2 DVD that the episode was also named "Empty Nest".

It's another one of those episoides I found funny in the sense because Rita's character was apparently one of the best friends of the Golden Girls yet you never saw or heard her mentioned before or after that episode.

Who is Jayman to tell others what they can and cannot post?

This is something I have noticed from this person on other occasions as well.

For some reason, because Jayman posts on the GG board a lot, she/he thinks its their place to tell others what to do.

Its posters like Jayman that prevent the board from growing.

PS - most posters are okay though
