I saw the movie on AMC since last week and it was about David Mann was trying to drive his car across California. When he tries to pass a gas tanker, the driver somehow takes offence. At first the unseen driver just annoys David by continually passing him and slowing down. Then he starts playing mind games with David, tempting him to pass the tanker, only to prevent him when he tries. The story is seen from David's point of view, with commentary as he thinks to himself. It was a great film. The ending was sad where David finally wrecked his car after the tanker falling down the cliff. He had no car but he would stuck in the middle of nowhere without his car. "Duel" was the film that made Steven Speilberg his directorial debut, and it was from around 1971. That movie was reminised by other driving movies like "The Fast & the Furious", "Too Fast, Too Furious" and the "Herbie: The Love Bug" series. "Duel" was first shown as a TV movie years before and then it was released theatrically overseas in 1972.

I Love that movie by Steven Spielberg. It is so cool and it scared me when I first saw it when it came out. I wondered if all truck drivers were that mean...

Yeah, that movie is awesome. One of the most suspenseful movies Iv'e ever seen, and definitely the best tv movie Iv'e ever seen. If you liked Duel, you also need to check out Breakdown. It's also about a guy in a car, and a semi truck, but has a different storyline. It was made in 1997, and It stars Kurt Russell, and Kathleen Quinlan. It wasn't quite as good as Duel, but pretty close.

One of my favourite movies was Duel!! The suspense was incredible. Pretty scary too - we had a brick truck do the same sort of thing to us on a highway one day. We'd try to pass and he'd move over and block us - then he'd speed up or slow down depending on what we were trying to do. Had to report him to the company, but it sure scared the bejeepers out of us.
Also - another good movie like Duel is Shattered. Also Breaking Point. |

What I liked about Duel was not only the suspense but the fact that their wasn't to much talking in it.

Little bit of trivia: Some of the footage from "Duel" was used in an episode of "The Incredible Hulk." |

I've seen Duel about a half a dozen times. I think that it is the best made for tv movie ever...well, next to Salem's Lot that is.

The only made for tv movie that I liked almost as much as Duel, was Brian's Song. I actually liked the remake in 2001, more than the original. I didn't know Salem's Lot was made for tv. I'll have to see that movie sometime.

This suspense-thriller proves that Steven Spielberg can create a classic on a low budget and certain TV actors like Dennis Weaver can act.

I've seen it many times in the last 30 or so years.
That movie is from 1971 and the character (Dennis Weaver) drives a, I believe, '67 Plymouth Valiant. I would have to see the movie again to verify the year of the car. |

We all know that the sadistic truck driver in Duel remained faceless, but now you all get to see the actor who played him, stunt coordinator Carey Loftin. He is the man second from the left in this picture.
![]() He does not look very much like a sadistic truck driver, does he?

oh I love this movie. I have seen it tons of times. My favorite scene is when he is in the diner. I am not the biggest Speilberg fan but Duel is great.

"Duel" was Steven Spielberg's first major motion picture. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and thought it was very exciting. Spielberg could really pull some drama out of a basic cat and mouse game involving a man in a car and
an intimidating truck. |
