Oh No Why is there an exclamation point on the door?

I watch the GG everyday, and when they get a close up of the front door, I always see a exclamation point on their door! Does anyone know why it was put there?

"On the inside of the front door at the girls house you will notice an exclemation point carved into the door. As far as I've seen it's in every episode. Bea Auther who played Dorothy carved it in there for luck, and it's been there ever since."

I found this information on a Question and Answer part of a Golden Girl website, I do not know the person who said the quote or where they got the information from, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Damn! I've never noticed that. I'll be looking for it next time I see an episode.

You'd have to be blind not to notice it.

I have noticed that exclamation point carved in the door on many ocassions. I have heard the story that Bea Arthur carved the ! in the door the first day on the set, as a symbol of good luck for the show. Obviously, from the show's phenomenal success, it worked!!!

Too bad she didn't carve one for the remaining cast of The Golden Palace.

Default Exclamation Point

I'm not sure the rumor that Bea Arthur carving the exclamation point is true. I have noticed the exact exclamation point on the wall of the living room (actually there is more than one) toward the bedroom and kitchen areas.
Also, in some episodes, there are food molds on the sides of the kitchen window. The top molds are shaped like teardrops(?), and the bottom molds are round. Together, they look like exclamation points. I wonder if it was intentional?

WOW! I've always wanted to know if that was real or my imagination! I always thought it was the grain in the door. I had no idea it was intentional. Thanks for the info!!
