Is Olivia Newton-John's Boyfriend Missing at Sea? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

The U.S. Coast Guard tells "The Insider" that it is actively searching for a man who's been labeled OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN's boyfriend by reports out of Australia. PATRICK KIM McDERMOTT, 48, reportedly vanished following a fishing trip at sea seven weeks ago off the coast of California.

"On the 6th of July, family members came to us with information Patrick McDermott was missing," a Coast Guard spokesman said. "He had signed into a charter fishing vessel in San Pedro on July 1st. They had confirmation he was on the boat. The boat came back to port the next day after a one-night fishing trip."

Authorities say the family reported him missing after he did not show up for a family get-together a week later.

"Through further investigation, we found personal effects of his on the boat and his car was in the parking lot," the official says. "It is still a missing persons case and the investigation continues."

When "The Insider" quizzed the spokesman about whether the missing man may have been involved with Olivia, he said, "If she was part of this investigation, which I cannot confirm, she would most likely already have been interviewed. But again, I cannot confirm a connection."

The 'Grease' star met a cameraman and gaffer named Patrick Kim McDermott nine years ago on the set of a commercial. They began dating soon after.

Last year, that man expressed his love for Olivia in a videotaped message on the Australian TV series, "This is Your Life."

"If we could all just be a little bit like you, we'd all be a little better off," he told her. "I love you with all my heart."

All I know of this story is that it is true. This man is indeed missing and they are saying he faked his own death. But the only reports linking Olivia with him is News of the World All other articles don't mention her. Yet I found a pic with the two of them.

Strange eh? He's a good looking guy. Wonder what's going on? Olivia needs this like a hole in her head with all she's had to go through in the past. (If they are in fact a couple that is).

I just got that story off the Yahoo homepage under Entertainment. I'm guessing The Insider or Inside Edition, or Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight (geez - like they need that many shows so similar) will report something about it tonight or this week.

I just saw it on Nancy Grace. Strange how Olivia never reported him missing. His ex-wife reported him missing.

exactly. She went through breast cancer, a painful divorce and her mother died just a year ago, she doesn't deserve to go through this too.

Poor Olivia; just saw a statement on tv abt her boyfriend. She is such a nice lady. Why is it that they are barely talking abt it now on the news?????? FYI, the last law office I worked at in Calabasas, California, we handled the divorce case for Olivia Newton John and her ex husband Matt Lattanzi. We represented the husband (YUCK!)
i felt bad having to go through the files and read everything knowing what she had been through and what a nice lady she is and here is this jerk of a husband. I was in charge of the case file and so I had to take his calls. He was soooo irritating. I dreaded having to speak with him on the phone. She is smart for getting rid of him for the things he did. I feel so bad for her. She deserves nice things to happen to her, not these horrible things like breast cancer, jerk ex husband etc.

Matt Lattanzi was nothing before Olivia fell in love with him as an extra on the set of Xanadu.... and he's nothing now that he's part of her past. That really sucks that he was such a jerk to her, because she obviously loved him a lot, they did lots of romantic videos together, like Soul Kiss.

Oh yeah he was a jerk. He went to prostitutes WHILE MARRIED TO OLIVIA. Luckily he didn't get much in the divorce. She retained all her royalties and rights to her music, Grease $$$ and all her other stuff. He got some $$$, but compared to what she was worth at the time, it was pennies.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The longtime boyfriend of singer Olivia Newton-John boarded the ship "Freedom" seven weeks ago for an overnight fishing trip and hasn't been seen since.

Patrick Kim McDermott, 48, departed June 30 and his family reported him missing July 6 when he didn't attend an event they expected him at. The family subsequently discovered McDermott's vehicle still in a marina parking lot on July 11.

McDermott, a cameraman, and Newton-John, 56, have been together for nine years.

The Coast Guard is investigating the disappearance as a missing person case, said Chief Warrant Officer Scott Epperson during a press conference.

Newton-John urged anyone with information to contact authorities.

"I'm hopeful that my treasured friend is safe and well, and I'm grateful to the officials who are working so hard to find Patrick, whom I love very much," she said in a statement released Monday. "I ask anybody with information that could help to please, please come forward."

Newton-John said she chose not to go public with McDermott's disappearance earlier out of respect for his family.

"For those of us who know and love him, it has been a truly heart breaking experience and we have chosen to deal with it privately," she said.

The singer-actress, who appeared opposite John Travolta in the 1978 movie "Grease," is known for such songs as "Let Me Be There,""I Honestly Love You" and "Physical." She documented her successful fight against breast cancer in the early 1990s in the album "Gaia."

McDermott, a resident of Los Angeles' Van Nuys area, signed the passenger manifest when he went on board the fishing vessel and was last seen eating in the galley, Epperson said.

No one has told investigators they saw him getting off the vessel, Epperson said.

The fishing boat carried 23 passengers and three crew members, said Frank Liversedge, landing manager at the 22nd Street Pier where sport-fishing boats launch.

He said the trip was so uneventful that crew members could not remember what McDermott looked like. "The crew has no idea, they can't remember anything at all about the guy," Liversedge said. "There's no reason for anyone to remember him. Nothing took place on the boat."

What I don't understand is why are they barely coming out to the press with this story? Apparently five days passed before Olivia considered him missing at all. Why? I know she was in Australia, but if you have a love in your life, I can't see letting 5 days pass without talking to them. Man, I would talk to my boyfriend everyday when he was working out of town. Mostly just to say "hey how are you doing?"

It IS strange isn't it? Especially that its not getting all that much press.

Could be he's one of those eccentrics that just takes off for days to get away or be on his own, but you'd think they'd seem more upset than they are. Reminds me of that author/actor (played the shrink on the Nanny) who just took off one night in NYC and they found him months later floating in the river. He was known to be suicidal though.
