Music Song Dedications

My first boyfriend dedicated the Orlean's song, 'You're Still The One' to me.

In high school, Peter Frampton was the rage, and my second boyfriend of five years dedicated the song, 'Baby I Love Your Way', to me.

In my 20s, another boyfriend dedicated the Beatle's song, 'In My Life', to me. In fact, we were engaged, and that's the song he wanted to play for our first dance at the wedding (which was cancelled).

A few years later, I ran into him, and he told me he thought of my whenever he heard Bob Seger's song, 'Still The Same'.

When my husband and I were first dating, he dedicated Roberta Flack's song to me, 'The Closer I Get To You'.

In turn, I dedicated 'Islands In The Stream', the duet by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton to him. Corny song, but I love it. It was all over the radio back then.

Other songs that my husband and I feel are "ours" include, 'Unchained Melody', 'I Only Have Eyes For You' and Kenny Roger's song, 'Through The Years'.

I hooked up with a commitphobic back in the early 90s when my husband and I separated. I dedicated the Cranberrie's song, 'Linger', to him. I told him about that one. Songs that he didn't know about were Jon Secada's, 'Just Another Day (Without You)', and 'You're My Favorite Mistake' by Sheryl Crow.

Since my father passed away, I can't help but think of him when I hear the Luther Vandross song, 'Dance With My Father'.

I think of both of my parents when I hear, 'The Living Years', by Mike And The Mechanics.

'The Wind Beneath My Wings' has always been for my parents, even if all the lyrics don't apply.

I dedicate these songs to someone in life that I like:
The Beauty of Who You Are by Marc Broussard
Hope for Me Yet by Marc Broussard

This song reminds me of Dumbledore (Harry Potter):
Gavin's Song by Marc Broussard

AHHH I love In The Living Years Janice!! One of my favorites.

I dont really have any songs yet for people, because Ive never had a boyfriend so we dont have 'our song'. My songs though are Dont Cry Outloud and What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted. And my wedding song will be Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.

None.

I've had plenty of songs over the years that I felt were totally speaking how I was feeling at the moment...many of them lately being from Avril Lavigne.

I so agree with you on these selections/dedications. I lost my father last year and always cry when I hear "Dance With My Father". "Wind Beneath My Wings" was played at my father's funeral. "Living Years" is a song that always made me think of my father while he was alive and even more so when he passed away. How weird, you and I have the same selections. Awesome.

I'll say.

Another song that was written specifically for the loss of your parents was written and sung by David Gates of Bread. It's the 70s song, 'Everything I Own'. Once you realize he's speaking about missing his parents, it takes on a whole new meaning.

Oh yes. I have that song, actually their greatest hits CD. Awesome. Beautiful. I grew up in the late 60's-early 70's. Bread was the greatest. Yes that song gets me right here (Irene points to her heart).

It's eerie.... Even if I am a huge fan of Ace of Base, I seem to connect with some of their songs the most. Some of those songs about crushes describe me VERY well.... *Twilight Zone music playing*

I think that song is great. I remember hearing that the song was about his Dad and thought how wonderful. I too, lost my father and can relate to that song.

i dedicate avril lavigne's song "forgotten" to the people who messed me up in ninth grade. the lyrics are PERFECTLY accurate.

after my friend died in may, i listened to "my immortal" by evanescence.. i'd heard the song only about a thousand times before and knew the all lyrics like the back of my hand, but the line "i tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone" really hit me when i heard it again. probably the most intense feeling i had about her death was disbelief that she was gone. i spent so much time trying everything i could to drill it into my mind that she wasn't ever coming back, but i automatically kept bouncing back to thinking "it's ok, she'll be back" because it seemed so impossible.

Jimmy Eat World's "In the Middle" was my song in 8th grade when I was just so ****ed over by friends and so miserable with my depression hitting me. Gave me a sort of hope, I guess.

I think "my songs" at the moment are:
Set Sail - Transition
Melody - Transition
BLue & Yellow - The USed
Greener W/ The Scenery - The USed
I'm Not Okay - MCR
Nobody Not Really - Alicia Keys

In high school, my song was "Lorelei" by Styx, cuz it closely resembled my real (and much hated!) name, and cuz I got engaged to my long-time boyfriend at the prom (we broke up within a year LOL). I still plan to change my name to that legally, but probably not until my parents both pass on--they would be soooo insulted!

My main college boyfriend and I had the song "I Got You" by the Australian "new wave" band Split Enz.

My husband and I never really had a song, unless it was "Blue Sky" by the Allman Brothers ("You're my blue sky, you're my sunny day/Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way.")

My "other dark angel" and I, however, have several songs for each other--the main one being "Colour My World" by Chicago.
