Fame - I'm Gonna Live Forever...On DVD!

Popular online retailer DVDPlanet has added a pre-order listing ( http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_lis...roductid=61938 )for Fame - Season 1, a 4-DVD set from Sony/MGM that they report is due to ship on November 1st. From all indications, this is the 1982 television series that spun off from the classic 1980 film.

In fact, several cast members from the film made the jump over to the ongoing series, including Gene Anthony Ray as "Leroy Johnson", Lee CurrerI as "Bruno Martelli" (who also composed for the show), Albert Hague as "Mr. Shorofsky", and Debbie Allen as "Ms. Grant". While Irene Cara didn't make it to the small screen version, the character of Coco did and was played by Erica Gimpel, who later showed up in other shows including North & South and Profiler. Also look for more stars to show up, including Nia Peeples, Janet Jackson, and Jasmine Guy.

Look for a 4-DVD set that will cost $49.95, but which you can pre-order from DVDPlanet.com for just $34.97. Stay tuned for more information when the studio officially announces it next week, and we'll bring you cover art just as soon as we can.

Vashti will be happy to hear this. I think he's been waiting for it for quite awhile.

Edit: duh, he already knows.

I love the movie Fame and have always been curious about the television series. Alan Parker, the director of the film, states on the DVD of the movie that the show was nothing like the movie.

Yep. I actually found out a couple of weeks ago when pavanbadal announced the scoop. You're right, I've been waiting a long time, so I'm glad it's finally happening.

She must've have been a guest star, or one of the background dancers. She was never a regular on the series.

That's what I'm waiting for, the cover art. Pavan do you know if one logo or the other will be featured on the package, Sony or MGM?

I fear trouble already. This says 736 minutes and the press release says 768 minutes. That's a big difference. If it's 736, it's 46 minutes per episode average. If it's 768, it's 48 minuters per.

ugh, syndication strikes again (or does that count since most of Fame's original run was in syndication? lol) I hope it's a mistake on Sony's behalf and that Fame's unedited. I haven't seen the show in over a decade since it was on WGN and will love to add it to my DVD collection.

To me, Fame is alongside MASH and Buffy The Vampire Slayer when it comes to the elite group of TV shows that were actually better than the original movie.

Mark Goodman was on Fame? I don't remember that

(yes, I know that was Lee Currerri, but it's been so long since I've seen the show and his hair wasn't as big in the movie that I forgot how much they looked alike, lol)
