PHILADELPHIA - The remains of a missing pregnant woman was recovered, and a person has been taken into custody in the case, police said Saturday.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson said Stephen Roaches has been arrested for the murder of 24-year-old LaToyia Figueroa, whose disappearance had gained national media attention.

Johnson identified Roaches as Figueroa's ex-boyfriend.

Figueroa, who was five months pregnant when she disappeared, was last seen July 18 in West Philadelphia.

Authorities said they had questioned family members, neighbors and the father of Figueroa’s unborn child, among others, but had not identified anyone as a suspect and said they were treating the disappearance as a missing person’s case.

Relatives and friends have papered the city with flyers and held large-scale searches for any sign of Figueroa. A reward fund for information has reached $100,000.

This is the news I woke up to this morning. How sad. I guess he's dead now. I wonder if it was worth it to him.

I'd been following this case somewhat since it happened and unfortunately, the outcome didn't surprise me.

Anyone notice how the media - mostly the cable news networks - has been covering the hell out of Natalee Holloway (rich white girls)'s disappearance, but they haven't said too much about LaToyia Figueroa (impoverished black woman). Sickening.

That aside, the case is very sad and my heart goes out to Ms. Figueroa's family and friends.

The reason they are covering Natalee Holloway is because it happend in Aruba, which makes this case unusual.

Frankly, there is nothing unusual about Figueroa's case, at all. It's odd she is getting any coverage at all, thousands go missing a year, many of them pregnant, lots of them die.

No one goes missing in Aruba pretty much. The Holloway case is very unusual, that's why she gets coverage.

I hope so. I know California has a law that says if you murder a pregnant woman you get charged for two murders. It was enacted after Lacey Peterson's murder. Don't know if it applies in Pennsylvania, though.

A woman here in philly emailed the Daily news paper and blamed Latoyia figueroa for her own death. The woman said she was dumb and paid the price and should have used birth control. Well that letter caused lost of angry responses to the Phil daily News and phone calls. Can;t believe how this woman overlooked the fact that a 7 year lost her mother.
