I might be the only one who feels this way, but I think the Brady Bunch ended at a perfect time. Because if they had season 6 it would have probably been the last anway. Robert Reed wanted out. They wanted him gone.Greg would have gone off to college. Cindy and Brady were going from cute kids to young preteens. I just do not think they had the spark to go one more season. Also the kids demands couldn't fit the show. Susan wanted a pony. Barry wanted Greg and Mike to get in a fight. Those wouldn't work especially if Robert wasn't there. It ended at a good time.

I would have liked the show to continue a few more seasons - but without Cousin Oliver. Send him back home at the beginning of Season 6. The show could have had some episodes with Greg in college and also focused on the rest of the bunch at home. As popular as the show has been over the years, a few more seasons would have been awesome--but I do see what you're saying about Robert Reed wanting out and other demands. Ah well, we still have five seasons worth of reruns!

I would've liked another seaoson without Oliver as well. Greg in college sounds like an interesting plot. And the family adjusting without him...

I think if the show were continued for another year. Greg would have still been living at home even though he was in College. They could have had the premire episode that year with Greg going off to College to live at the dorm, but he gets sad and lonely being away from home, and by the end of the episode he decides to come home and commute to College every day. For some reason I just don't see them getting rid of the Charachter of Mike Brady. His role would have most likely been recast. It's hard to say who would have took over as Mike Brady though. Those are pretty big shoes top fill and I think Robert Reed did an excellent job.

Of course, back then I didn't know about RR walking off the set, the demands made by the kids or just how poorly Brady Bunch did in the ratings. I would have been equally shocked to find out that RR was gay. Now, looking back at it from an adult perspective, and knowing several things I didn't know back then, I think it is probably a good thing that it didn't go on to a 6th and 7th season. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to know what would have happened and if I could somehow watch those never made episodes I certainly would but... If Mike had been killed off, as was planned, he coudn't have been on all the reunion shows. Without him the reunion shows wouldn't have been the same and might not have ever been made at all. Also, RR might have become bitter and made a series of "tell all" books and may even have come out. Think of what that would have done to the synication cycle! Though the ratings were never very good there was still a very loyal fan base. If production values had slipped then this loyal fan base might have melted away. Snce BB, like most shows back then, didn't go into syndication until if finished its network run, we would have had to wait another 2 or 3 years to see the older reruns. As it was the fanbase was still hungry for more and eagerly received the chance to finally see the early seasons again. Another 1 or 2 seasons with declining scripts might have eroded interest in the syndicated reruns. If the first couple of rounds of syndication hadn't done so well that might have been it, and fans now as old as their 20s and 30s might never have even heard of Brady Bunch. If the syndication run had faltered, it is doubtful we would have seen the VHS tapes and later DVDs. Though I would still have bought them, it is unlikely there would have been enough interest to justify such a release. As sad as I was to see it go, I now believe that its time had come. |

I have no problem with Oliver. He was a good kid. They could have had him and his parents as recurring characters. Why do you all hate Oliver so much? It was Paramounts idea. Hate them instead.
