Sad I had a heat stroke on Sunday

I had a heat stroke on Sunday. The doctor said I could've easily gone into a COMA (holy s##t!) under the circumstances. I was "lucky" to have only fainted. It was due to lack of food, lack of sleep, severe dehydration, intense heat temperatures, a fever, and overall body exhaustion. Bummer.

Anyway, so now I'm chained to the bed -- literally. I can't go outside at ALL. Argh. This is so frustrating! But my body needs time to recover.

Aw........ I feel for you. This past weekend I saw 2 ladies fall. The ambulances had to come and pick them up because of the intense heat. It also happened to my husband. He has diabetes and with the intense heat and needing to drink something sweet he collapsed. it was surely a frighting thing to see.

As for me I have felt the intense heat. I cannot stay outside when it is very humid or I could pass out.

Stay well........

When I first saw this topic I thought it said "I had a heart stroke on Sunday". I was thinking, oh my god.

I'm half asleep still. Oh well. Hope you get over your heat stroke soon. It sucks not being able to go outside.

Ive had heat stroke, in summer, particularly a hot one like this year has been, its essential to ALWAYS wear a hat, drink a lot of fluids ( to avoid dehydration ) and not to get TOO much sun...i vividly remember getting very dizzy and almost blacking out, and i was nauseous for a week...hope youre feeling better, take care of yourself.

A couple of years ago my son, who is a landscaper, was hospitalized with heat stroke. He said that his entire body cramped up severely. That was the worst of it for him. Well just last week he got it again but not so bad this time. He knew how to handle it. It is nothing to fool around with! It can cause a heart attack. If you are going to be working outside in the heat be sure to drink a lot of water but better yet drink plenty of Gatorade which contain electrolites and essential minerals that are lost during dehydration.

I think that I had a touch of it one time back when I would sunbathe for hours at a time. I went into the house and suddenly got dizzy and queasy. I had to lie down immediately.

One can never over-stress the importance of food, and above all, plenty of water, when out in the heat.

I hope you have a fast recovery.

Hi, guys. Thanks for all your comments! I have only been out for 15 minutes in the past 4 days. I feel so cooped up at home. A simple trip to the grocery store is now even difficult! Argh.

Remind me never to work outdoors on one slice of bread, a fever, and four hours of sleep again. (Guess I was kinda asking for trouble, huh? )

I seriously had the scare of my life. The doctor said I could've easily gone into a coma, which I had no idea was even POSSIBLE due to heat. I am drinking Gatorade and water like crazy now. I think I'm paranoid, LOL.

I hope you are feeling better soon. I know it's probably difficult trying to eat healthy without binging right now. Just drink lots of water and eat fruit cause that has a lot of water in it..pretty much what everyone else said. Best wishes to you!

Gatorade has too much sugar. It helps to replenish salt and it certainly boosts your energy. But you should drink one part Gatorade, three parts water. Personally I've never been able to stand the taste of Gatorade. But it has proven helpful for me on occassion.

Nothing should replace drinking water. In addition, if you know you will be working outside all day, you should drink a large glass of water beforehand, so that the water has enough time to reach the vital systems and be used by your body.
