Procol Harum
Does anyone remember a British group called Procol Harum? This group is probably best remembered for their hit 1967 song"Whiter Shade Of Pale",which has been covered by many other artists. The latest rendition is probably by Annie Lennox.I've even heard an Italian version. But I just love the rest of their music as well.Gary Brooker is a great singer.Their hammond organ is beautifully played throughout almost all of their songs. There's something special about this group.

'A Whiter Shade of Pale' is one of the most beautiful songs ever. It has a hypnotic quality to it. What a melody. I love that song.
Did Procol Harum ever have any more big hits that I might recognize? |

Their only other US hit single is the live version of"Conquistador".But I highly recommend the two compilation CDs that I currently own. Both are available in stores. The Best Of Procol Harum and Procol Harum/The Chrysalis Years:1973-1977."A Whiter Shade Of Pale"is the very first track on The Best Of Procol Harum.

If I hear "A Whiter Shade of Pale" one more time I'll......the radio stations should play "A Salty Dog" and "Whisky Train." They're both great!

I had the pleasure of seeing Procul Harem perform in New Jersey a long time ago. Great classic band. And "Whiter Shade Of Pale" is probably my favorite song ever.

Please Please........... Tell me what it is about? ![]() We skipped the light fandango, turned cartwheels 'cross the floor. I was feeling kind of sea-sick, the crowd called out for more. The room was humming harder, as the ceiling flew away. When we called out for another drink, the waiter brought a tray. And so it was that later, as the miller told his tale, That her face at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale. She said there is no reason, and the truth is plain to see. But I wandered through my playing cards, and would not let her be. One of sixteen vestal virgins, who were leaving for the coast. And although my eyes were open, they might just as well been closed. And so it was that later, as the miller told his tale, That her face at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale. |

Oh man do I feel dumb!
I've always loved Whiter Shade of Pale and Conquistador, but I thought the name was "Purple Harem". Talk about having "disclexia"!!!

I tried - forget it - somebody was dropping some orange acid that night:
We skipped the light fandango turned cartwheels 'cross the floor I was feeling kinda seasick but the crowd called out for more The room was humming harder as the ceiling flew away When we called out for another drink the waiter brought a tray And so it was that later as the miller told his tale that her face, at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale She said, 'There is no reason and the truth is plain to see.' But I wandered through my playing cards and would not let her be one of sixteen vestal virgins who were leaving for the coast and although my eyes were open they might have just as well've been closed She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,' though in truth we were at sea so I took her by the looking glass and forced her to agree saying, 'You must be the mermaid who took Neptune for a ride.' But she smiled at me so sadly that my anger straightway died If music be the food of love then laughter is its queen and likewise if behind is in front then dirt in truth is clean My mouth by then like cardboard seemed to slip straight through my head So we crash-dived straightway quickly and attacked the ocean bed
