Dont tell me Newhart has no fans!!!!! Come on people, this is a great show!
Well, even though I appear to be talking to myself. MY favorite episodes are the Ye Old Apple Day Celebration (remember Michael and the song "Aaappplllesss, Appppppllessssss!! and George trying to keep the tradition.
And another favorite is when George tryed to fix the bell tower before the other handman did and they all ended up in the tower during a storm (this is the one where Michael is afraid of the Wizard of Oz isn't it)
Oh and the last epsode of course!! Now THAT is a classic! But I wont give it away here in case you haven't seen it...

"Oh Grandma, What A Big Mouth You Have" is by-far the best episode of this series.

Even though I just started watching the series when it came on TNN, I would have to say so far the episode "My Three Dads", when Larry, Darryl and Darryl want to adopt a kid and they wind up with a 17 year old guy.

Newhart was simply too good and his cast was too great to limit to one favorite show. i feel that the 1982-1990 comedy was better than his classic 1972-1978 show. i think that the best shows on "Newhart" are the final episode; the episode where Larry, Darryl, and Darryl are seen for the first time (they arrive to dig up a witch buried in the Inn's basement!); the one where Dick burns down a cafe because he threw his cigar into a trash can without putting it out; the one where Dick is being interviewed by a man on his TV show only for the calm, nice host to get mean once the cameras start to roll; there were just to many! what about the time Joanna tried to get Larry, Darryl, and Darryl to act cultured and sophisticated? the goofy Jim and Chester were always a riot. Tom Poston was the biggest attraction other than Newhart on this show and i liked George and Dick's hilarious verbal routines over the meaningless of things. "Newhart" is terribly under-rated and is called no good by an audience who has an infatuation with the '70s. when Nickelodeon played "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart" in back-to-back marathons i loved both of them but "Newhart" was simply more 'goofy' funny as opposed to the "Bob Newhart" 'cerebral' funny.

Although "Newhart" was an intelligent and enjoyable sitcom, it couldn't live anywhere up to the original series. I still can't cope with the fact that BNS never won a single emmy award.

ironically, Newhart and associates for the 1972-1978 run were always shut-out against you guessed it: "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "All in the Family". the ironic thing is that Bob and Mary's shows were done by the same people but Mary always triumphed. the same for "Newhart", it was always shut-out because it wasn't a loud, over-exposed mega hit.

Thumbs up Best Episode

The last one is a real keeper, probably the best ending to any sitcom that I could think of.

You're posting dates only all around this website Solomon. What gives? Can you be more specific? What was the name of the episode or what was it about?
Most of us don't know the episodes by the dates they originally aired.

I have a list!

1) George Utley thinks he sees a UFO
2) Stephanie and Michael go visit Stephanie's parents
3) Dick and Joanna find out there is a body in the cellar
4) Dick tries to encourage George to spend some of his money on
frivolous items
5) Joanna tries to help L,D & D to have a grand opening in the cafe to bring in business
6) Stephanie and Dick star in a sitcom
7) Dick has his first show on Vermont Today and they can only get silly guests
8) Dick and Joanna go to a community potluck and Joanna creates a bit of an uprising between the men and women

I have many more but these top my list!

The episode in Season 1 when Dick found a body buried in the basement. It was memorable for being the initial episode with Larry, Darryl and Darryl.

This show is too good to limit to just a few episodes! A few that spring to my mind would be, in no particular order:
1. The first episode with Larry, Darryl & Darryl
2. The one where Michael & Stephanie elope
3. The first one with Stephanie
4. The one where George thinks he sees a UFO
5. The one where Stephanie & Michael go to couples therapy under the names of Chuck & Dawn
6. The one where Stephanie goes to jail
7. The one where Dick is on jury duty
8. Obviously, the last episode

There are lots of other good ones, but I'm having trouble thinking today!
