Default watched an Ep. today and............

hi all,

I was watching an episode today of the Dick Van Dyke Show and in the episode the word "pregnant" was used. I thought that was a taboo word back then.

That was the scene with the lady and her cat, right? She said her cat think she's pregnant. I don't really know why they said "pregnant". All I can guess is by the time that episode was made, the censors loosened up in that area.

I would concur with that. I believe standards were starting to loosen then. We have commented on that on this board before. They still had to sleep in seperate beds!

I'm sorry but of all things in this show, the twin beds REALLY get to me!!! And a lot of the time Rob was with Laura, or Laura was with Rob in each other's beds. Were they the last couple to have twin beds?

I think so, because Sam and Darrin (on "BEWITCHED") and Herman and Lily Munster (on "THE MUNSTERS") slept in the same bed while Rob & Laura had twin beds for the entire run.

God that annoys me!!! They were SUCH a believeable couples...besides that. I just can't imagine a couple like Rob and Laura sleeping in seperate beds.

Didn't Lucy and Desi have twin beds pushed together during their last years on the Lucy-Desi Comedy hour? That was around 1960, so you'd think they would have had Laura and Rob with one large sized bed.

Interestingly, in some of the Ozzie and Harriet episodes they are in double beds and in others they are in a single (queen size) bed. And their show started in the 50's !! Why double beds would continue to be a mainstay (in some series) in the early 60's is beyond me.

Having said this, perhaps it was easier in O & H's case (for those times they were in a single bed) because they were really married.

???
