Smile Hey..A word from the Moderator...PLEASE READ.

Hey Folks..as you all know I am a pretty easy going person. But in the recently I have been having problems with an old thread that was bumped up. The thread was about where the word "HONKY" came from? and there have been a couple of members here found the thread appalling..though I do not tolerant any racial slang myself and I also consider that I pet peeve of mine, I know that the thread was not initially meant to be racially bias or to express racism ..but not to cause MORE any problems I decided to delete the thread...

Thanks
Tara

P.S. Solomon if you read this: remember that I think very highly of you and you are definitely one of the many highlights of Sitcoms On Line..so please do not take it personally that I deleted a thread that you created..but this message is for EVERYONE who steps out of line with any kind of racial comments or anything that is portrayed racially in a negative light that might offend people...

P.S.S. If anyone has a problem on this board or I as a moderator please contact me via PM..I will be more than happy to help you

Now we can't say "honky" without being subjected to PC censorship? It's "out of line" now?
This is my last message on these boards.

Honestly - to complain about that thread is just incredibly anal. It was posted by a white person and most of the comments on it were made by whites (myself included).

It WAS relevant to the show since it was said by a character - just as many things had been said by Archie Bunker or George Jefferson. It was the era. As a matter of fact, we've had discussions on the other racial "slurs" made on the those shows without any problems in the past. Interesting how this just happened a couple of weeks after WE were pissed off at the blantant racism going on at the TV Land boards. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if this was meant as "payback" for that from someone over there.

Get real people. We can't even ask simple questions anymore? I see more and more ridiculous censorship happening. If you don't like it, don't read the thread. Nobody was calling anybody anything.

Tara - this isn't meant for you - I know you have to do what you have to do when something is reported. Its just people are getting too ridiculous and Solomon is NOT racist, nor is any other member I've conversed with on these boards.

I agree with you tripper, it was simply a question regarding the origin of the word, which was in fact subject matter regarding the 70's shows. I was unable to reply unfortunately before the thread was locked. I was able to read many of the replies which in my opinion were very diplomatic and informative.

It is unfortunate that a public board will draw many people who are looking to misinterpret and cause confusion.

It was not posed in a derogatory, prejudicial nor racist manner.

I feel for the moderator and I don't want to step on peoples' toes here. But the question was a relevant one, just like if one asked the meaning or the origin of N****, or C***N. The person who made the first complaint is someone who rarely posts anything on this board and I TAKE OFFENSE to someone who rarely posts anything to reply to a thread that was NOT TAKEN OFFENSIVELY BY THE REGULARS. I am not black. I am not white. I was called the "H" word when I was younger because of my very light skin, but it was done in jest. The regulars here know intelligently what is truly meant when someone like Soloman asks a genuine question like the one that set this argument going. And if the posts of that thread were read again, you can see that nothing racial or anything hatred was said. When my teen daughter watched Good Times last week for the first time she asked me what the word "C**N meant, as well as the "H" word. An innocent child asking an innocent question to something that was SAID BY A CHARACTER ON A TV SHOW THAT US GT FANS LOVE TO DEATH OR WE WOULDN'T BE HERE POSTING. WE WOULD BE ON TV LAND TALKING RACIAL, HATE, BIGOTRY AND PLAIN IGNORANCE. Like I said, nothing against the moderator. This is to those who aren't regular posters and have nothing better to do than ruin the friendship we have here. Thank You.

Truth be told, one person who reported the post was threatening a civil suit as they thought it was demeaning. Personally, I was not offended by the thread and wasn't going to delete or even lock it myself. It was an innocent question.

What surprises me so much is that someone would get offended by it. That term hasn't been used in decades. "Cracker" at least is more recent.

Well if this person has that kind of time then they need to go over to TVLand message boards with their threats and then maybe they will clean up the blatant ignorance, hatred, and prejudice that appeared on their GT forum.

This person is obviously insecure and not very intelligent. They have to presume intelligence and power with their unfounded threats.

And they must be broke seeking some any possible way to get some money. These are the type of people who deliberately fall down in the grocery store in order to file a suit.

I'm very curious as to the age of the persons reporting the thread as offensive/demeaning. Probably someone barely able to walk or talk when these shows aired.

The most intolerant people I have ever met in my life are the people who claim they have tolerance for others.

And great - just what every administrator wants - a member that's going to threaten "legal action" when they report a post. Give me a break! You can get away with that once or twice, but then who wants to converse with someone like that for very long.
They just shouldn't be on the internet if they're afraid of seeing contraversial topics.

And frankly, from anything I saw on that thread - they wouldn't have a case anyway - they want to sue someone, as we say, hit the TV Land boards - there's plenty going on over there they can rag about.

Tripperfan I'm Black-lol But I'm still surprised the Thread received complaints because the question was CONNECTED to TV Sitcoms. I didn't ask how far back do the term honkey go period.

No it wasn't a scerect, my race was never important because we were discussing TV Shows. But since she assumed I was white, i told her I was black not white. Other than that, it wouldn't have never been brought up because I'm not concerned about what a S.O. member race is.
