Default Cheap for not wanting to drive 56 miles?

somebody is telling me I'm cheap because right now, I don't feel like driving 56 miles roundtrip to hang out with him. I just filled up at $2.39 the other day and swore to myself to use as minimal amount of gas as I can until payday (which will be early next week).

Considering the price of gas keeps going up and up, do you think not wanting to use up almost 2 gallons (which comes to almost $5) right now makes me cheap? These days I am excrutiatingly anal with spending money, almost a complete contrast to the person I used to be, and I see no need in spending more money on gas than I honestly need to.

If he thinks you are being so cheap, ask him why he doesn't drive to see YOU?

56 miles is almost $5. I have a mild case of OCD when it comes to gas, I always want to have my gas tank as close to filled as possible (and I hate it when I have to spend more than $10 whenever I fillup, I usually fill up after 100 miles or so) and I don't wanna put unnecessary mileage on it considering I only allow myself $25 spending money a week and that goes for gas and eating out and whatever, and even then I always like having some left over to put in the bank (thank god I get DVD's for free, getting that job was a godsend to me).

I don't think you're cheap at all, Buffyslayer. In fact, I'm the same way when it comes to gas I only spend $10 at a time.

Nah. I think I'll use that excuse with my cousin. Hell, nowadays, anytime you can save a little gas, do it. I agree with D...make him come see you if he's not "cheap."

it's hardly a close friend of mine.

I am sorry, I am almost 26, I cannot spend money the way I used to when I was 17. I see a lot of friends who are paying the price for spending out of their means by having their electricity turned off, etc... because they're not making enough to cover rent. I am sorry if I would rather live close so I can be somewhat well-off down the road instead of having to worry about paycheck to paycheck. From 14-23, I spent practically every cent I could on frivolous stuff, and now I know conserving my money is better.

Perhaps, if money is an issue for you these days, your friend can help you with it. He can buy you lunch that day or whatever...some sort of compromise?

I personally wouldn't let $5 stop me from doing anything I wanted to do. I could be wrong but it tells me that you don't really care about doing it, otherwise you would. Like I said, I could be wrong.

You should meet half way. Unless of course half way is the middle of nowhere.

I don't think $5 is that big of a deal. I wouldn't say you were cheap though, because I don't drive to places just to get out anymore. So, why doesn't he come see you, or meet half way? There must be a reason.

I don't think you're being cheap, BuffySlayer. I suppose $5 isn't TOO much, but, like you said, it's important to be careful with money, and this person isn't one of your best friends.

I don't think it would matter if it was a once in a while kind of thing, but it's up to you whether you want to drive 56 miles to see someone, and spend $5. I don't think you're necessarily being cheap; just cautious on how you spend your money.
