I remember them and still see them at the store!
I don't let my DD eat them though; she can chip a tooth.

Cool

Yeah I agree - they drove you nuts because they were just big enough to be annoying, but you knew you didn't dare try to bite into them, but they tasted sooooooo good!

I hear there's a store downtown called, "Sugar Mountain" and it sells all the old candy that you can't get anymore like jawbreakers (I just worry that its the ORIGINAL stuff)!! I mean, it must be expensive if they just make it in small batches - unless it comes from other parts of the world where it isn't banned).

I also wish you could get Black Cat Bubblegum still - like DoubleBubble only in sweet licorce flavour - yum!

They were cool (and strange sort of). REALLY hard candy - usually with a light marbling on the outside for about a 1/2 thick - then you got to bubble gum in the centre - it was getting to it that made you work. They'd last for hours. Not something you want to be eating with a tele-marketing job!

why is everyone referring to them in past tense? they're all over the place. go to wal*mart or something right now and you'll find some..

i like them, i've been able to bite through them right away before. they taste good.

You just answered your own question - the "jawbreakers" today aren't nearly as hard as they were 30 or so years ago - we're talking KILLERS. That's why they were temporarily taken right off the market and then reintroduced still large, and fairly hard, but not like they used to be.
