How well do Terri, Janet and Jack know each other? Will secrets from each of their pasts threaten their friendship? Will it bring them closer together? Will it bring love to their lives? Will it drive them apart?

Terri was having a terrible day. Everything was going wrong. First this morning she missed the bus. When she finally got to work she was an hour late. Things just went down hill from there. It seemed like everything she did went wrong today. She finally sat down for lunch. She found a quiet corner in the cafeteria and put her hands in her face and cried. She had tried hard to forget the past, but every now and then it would creep up on her like a bad dream. One minute she was happy as could be and the next she would start crying for no apparent reason. Would the bad memories of that day ever fade? Would she ever be able to live a normal life again without the pain of what she had done? What would Jack and Janet think about her if they knew her painful secret?

Janet was having an equally bad day. First she mixed up some orders at the flower shop. Then she locked herself out of the apartment. She was sitting on the steps thinking about the day she had. She wished she could start the day over again. There was another day that she wanted to live over again. A day that her life changed forever, she had done something so awful that she still had nightmares about it. Even thirteen years later the memories still haunted her. What would her life have been like had she not done what she did? The memories of the past refused to let her go. What would Jack and Terri think of her if they knew? That is what made her keep the past a closely guarded secret.

Jack’s day had gone from bad to worse. First he had spilled an entire pot of soup. Then to make things even better, he almost burned the restaurant down. His mind was definitely not on work. He had a secret that threatened to reveal itself at any moment. It was almost 18 years ago today that he made the big mistake. He could have blamed it on the fact that he was young and foolish. That wouldn’t have been too far from the truth. He could have said that he didn’t know any better at the time. That would certainly have been true. What almost 16 year old has the foresight to see into the future? Because the secret threatened to come out, he was jittery and nervous. What would Janet and Terri think of him if they knew his secret?

Should I continue?

12 years ago Terri had made a choice that would forever alter her life. At the time it had seemed so innocent. She never expected it to blow up in her face. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened. She was a highschool senior. She knew that she wanted to go into nursing. She had known that since she was a little girl. She loved taking care of people and her dolls were forever getting sick or hurt. She would bandage them up and pretend that they were patients.

She was volunteering as a candy-striper at the hospital near her home. That made her so happy. Being around patients that needed her. She loved her parents, but they didn't understand her ambition to be a nurse. They had wanted her to get married and have lots and lots of kids. That wasn't what Terri wanted though. She knew that her calling was to be a nurse.

She was working an early morning shift one Saturday when she met him. He was a doctor in the pediatrics ward. She had fallen in love with him at first sight. He was tall and handsome and had a head full of silver hair. That made her heart beat faster. When he asked her to have coffee with him she accepted immediately. They were sitting in a quiet corner of the hospital cafeteria talking.

"So, Terri what is a beautiful young lady like yourself doing hanging around a place like this? You should be out having fun with your friends?"

She smiled a big smile and said "I really like helping people. I am starting college in the fall. I want to be a nurse."

He smiled at her and took her hand and kissed it. Terri felt her heart do a flip flop. Terri realized then that she was falling for this doctor. He had to have been at least twice her age, but she was taken by him and he was a sweet talker. By the end of the cup of coffee, he had talked her into having dinner with him. She went home and got ready for the date. She sang the whole time she was getting ready. She realized now that she was taken in by his smooth looks and loving words. What she couldn't see then was how far into the depths of hell he would take her......

Janet was 17. She had been at a party for her graduation. They had been drinking and partying hard. Most of the kids were from her high school. She went to the party with her three best friends. Back then she was very laid back. She was a true blue party girl back then. Anything that was crazy and outlandish was something she would do. Her friends knew that she would take any dare. It was after the party that it happened. She was driving home afterwards. Truth be told, she shouldn’t have been driving. Back then though, they were not as well informed about drinking and driving. It was more of an accepted thing back then. In the car were her 3 best friends. Suddenly, the car swerved and ran into a car in the oncoming lane. The next thing Janet remembered, she was waking up in the hospital. She had numerous broken bones and her car was totaled. The thing that hurt the most was what happened to her friends. All three of them had been killed. Janet went into a deep dark depression. What happened in the following year would be something that Janet would regret for the rest of her life….

Jack was 17 going on 30. He thought he knew everything about anything. No one could tell him to do something. Some would consider him cocky and arrogant. Others could see through the bravado. He wanted to be loved. He had thought that he found love in an older woman. That turned out to be the farthest thing from the truth. He only found out too late and too many unanswered questions. It all started when he got a part time job delivering groceries after school. It was at one of the houses that he met her. She was very beautiful. She had long blonde hair. She was everything that Jack thought a woman should be. She invited him in to have a cold drink of lemonade. What happened next was the beginning of something that would last for over a year. The end would come as a shock to Jack. He was devastated at the end of it. The effects would last the rest of his lifetime.

Terri looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. She liked her new haircut. She only hoped Jeff liked it. It seemed like everything she did lately was to please him. She stopped caring about what she wanted and needed and only thought about what Jeff wanted. It was so sudden that no one saw it coming. All she knew was that she was in love with him and wanted it to last forever. She was meeting him for dinner that night and had bought a new dress for the occasion. She had a million butterflies in her stomach as she drove to the restaurant that night. She walked up and was surprised to see him looking at her with a look of pure hatred. She walked up to him to give him a kiss and he pulled away.

She asked "What is wrong Jeff?"

He looked at her and said with hatred in her voice "What did you do to your hair?"

"I decided to get it cut in a new style. Don't you like it?"

"I think it looks horrible. You should have asked me before you got your hair cut."

Terri was shocked. She hated that Jeff hated her hair. She had been so excited about it. She simply said "I'm sorry."

Then he looked at her dress and said "That dress looks absolutely awful. Where did you get it? Off a clearance rack?"

Terri felt tears welling in her eyes. She didn't like this side of Jeff. She had never seen him act like this. "I bought it at the mall. I guess I should have taken you with me."

He nodded and said "Next time you decide to go shopping. Let me know. I will go with you and help you pick out some fitting clothes."

Terri didn't really feel like eating anymore. She wanted to go home and cry. She stood up and walked out of the restaurant. Jeff followed close behind her. He asked "Where do you think you are going?"

"I'm going home Jeff. I don't feel like eating."

With that he raised his hand to her and slapped her face as he said "Don't talk to me like that!! You will come back in and eat with me. I don't like being made a fool of."

Terri stepped back. She was shocked. It was the first time he had struck her. She simply nodded and walked back into the restaurant.

After dinner Jeff took Terri back to his house. It was the first time that he had done that. He took her into the living room and gave her a drink. They kissed deeply. Terri thought it was going too far. So she pushed him away. This only enraged him. He was much stronger than she was. He held her down and proceeded to have his way with her. This was only the first of many times that he would force himself on her. Her life was slowly sinking into the depths of hell, and she was powerless to make it stop.

Janet decided that she had enough of her life in Speedway. Everywhere she turned there were memories of the past. She had decided that she was going to go to California for college. She left home with money in her pocket and a good feeling in her heart. She had a scholarship to a community college in Santa Monica. She needed to get away to someplace that no one knew about her past mistakes.

Soon after arriving at the college dorm she met her roommate. She was a worldly girl that was into the party scene. She invited Janet to a party one night. Janet met a man there. She slept with him that night. The results would haunt her for the rest of her life. A month later she woke up sick to her stomach. She found out later that week that she was pregnant. She cried when she found out. She couldn't have a baby. Not only would it ruin her life, but her parents would kill her. So she did the only thing she could think of at the time. She put it out of her mind and ended the pregnancy. It still haunted her to this day. Every time she saw a child the same age as hers would have been she cried at would could have been.

Had she been a stronger person all those years ago who knows what would have happened. She did what she did and never looked back. Except at times when she allowed herself time to cry. After it was all over she went into a deep depression. She got involved with a rough crowd. She started partying all night and sleeping all day. Classes fell by the wayside. Nothing mattered except trying to cover the pain.

Everything a boy loves to hear. When it finally happened. She finally seduced him into her bed. It caught him off guard and would stay with him for the rest of his life. After it was over he had a load of guilt and was nervous. She kissed him and asked if he would be over to deliver her groceries that day. He simply nodded and left. This was the start of an affair that would last for over a year. Each time he fell into bed with her he lost a little bit of respect for himself.
