Default Are the first season DVDs edited?

I've read that they are but this makes no sense to me at all. I don't see why they would do this. But,
if they have, I won't buy them. Edited or not...does anyone know?

The Episodes are edited. I compared 1 episode from the DVD to an episode that my mom had taped from the origional airing. On dvd it was 21:52 and on The Tape It was 22:57

A way to be 100% sure is to check the episode "Assault with a Deadly Dick", at the police station, a cop tells Dick that it is time for him to "finger his perp", then Dick looks at Mary and says "believe me I've tried, but she just wont let me".
This line is cut out in syndicated prints, and (i assume) the DVDs.

The Region2 DVDs are COMPLETLY unedited btw, most likely cause they were released by another company.

I've got all six seasons on DVD (Region 2), and I can confirm that they are all unedited. On the first season, we have the voiceovers on the opening credits.

Ooh i might know why they are shorter.

Between scenes, do u see the 3rd rock logo and it fades out to black, then u see the 3rd rock logo again and the next scene begins, or, do u just see the scenes kinda fade into each other with a short animation (planets etc.).

On original airings they had commercials inbetween, thus it faded to black, the dvds removes these breaks.. that might be it, also if they used the shorter intro that would leave some time out.

On the region 2 boxes we get the full intro though.. but hey.. rather a few secs cut from the intro than the whole eps cut down.

I bought my 1st season DVD at Best Buy the week it came out because of Best Buy's "exclusive extras." That was a mistake on two levels. One, because I got it before I found out about the episodes being syndicated and Two, my version didn't have the exclusive extras. It didn't have "Dick's Best" on the 4th disc as other posts I have read have indicated and it didn't have extended bloopers either. The sticker on the front even told about the exclusive extras. Since I was with someone who bought it for me for my birthday, I didn't take it back and I kept what I had. But I will NOT be buying Season 2 because of syndicated episodes and I most certainly will not fall for Best Buy's "Exclusive Extras" scam again in the future.

It may have been the manufactures fault becasue I got the exclusive and I no other people that also did so...
