You might not remember the case of Luis Diaz. He was broadcasted on the Final Appeal section of Unsolved Mysteries. In 1980 he was convicted of being the bird road rapist. He was sentenced to life in prison. He was released last week after DNA testing proved he was not the rapist. This link has more information.http://www.sptimes.com/2005/08/04/St...s__a_fre.shtml

Damn right if I sat in the cage for 26 years all the while being innocent I'd expect some major money for the government to compensate.

I don't know about you guys, but sitting in a cage for a day is worth a lot of $$$ to me. I can't even imagine how I'd be if I sat in one for 26 years. I think I'd want the prosecutor that messed up the case to deliver my checks in person.

If that's not Dustin Hoffman, I don't know who he is.

Yes, he does look like Dustin Hoffman. He would be perfect in a movie about this guy's life.

That was a reference to the movie Rain Man, which starred Dustin Hoffman.

Sorry, I haven't seen that movie in 5 years. The gambling scene in the movie was great.

Bird Road is less than a mile from where I'm typing this, while visiting my parents in Miami. That street was the cruising venue during my high school days so this case always had special significance to me.
Completely shocking prosecutors put a poor, vulnerable defendant behind bars for 25+ years with barely a hint of evidence. Gee, I wonder if they simply wanted to clear the case off their hands so they could yawn, place a checkmark on the case ledger, and make the community feel better? Nah, that never happens. Barry Scheck was obviously on the wrong side of the truth in the Simpson case. But his body of exculpatory work via the Innocence Project is beyond remarkable. |
