When you have a child with you in public and he/she cries, screams, etc....
"How do you deal with it?" |

i don't have kids but the best thing to do is to take them out of the place first and then talk to them about their behavior until they calm down.

My son is 8 and knows that when I give him "the look" he is in trouble. Fortunately he is well behaved in public. We have taken him to restaurants and the people around us compliment him on his good behavior.
It really irritates me when people bring bad behaved kids out in public. My sister is one of those people. My neice is so bad that I won't eat with her in public.... |

I used to babysit a lot, i have a lot of little cousins, the best way to deal with them is stay calm, and they'll calm down too. My cousins were pretty well behaved, though.

i work at a sports camp w/ 8 to 15 year old girls. (sometimes they get really annoying) whenever they get mad b/c they did bad, or they get "hurt," we just ignore them. they tend to complain less if no one is listening. i know it sounds mean, but it works.

I don't have kids, but when I go out with my little cousins I usually try to calm them down by talking to them.

I would quietly talk to them and calm them down.

I've never been anywhere with a young child so I can't really say how I would act. I hope that I would remain calm and would sit down with the child and calmly talk the problem over with the child and solve the problem that way. I see young mothers with children in stores all the time where the kids are running around and yelling and screaming and in many cases the mothers let their children to continue acting that way or they start yelling at the kids. Whenever I see this I always tell myself that if I ever have children that I will handle such a situation better. Whether or not I actually would remains to be seen I suppose.

I'm not around little kids that much. I know the best thing to do would be to remain calm but I'm not sure I would be able to. I think I would stay resonable calm.

that would be nice.i worked with 5-7 year olds at a camp this summer...yelling makes it worse, talking to them quietly but firmly will settle them down, when you have multiples the same age its also important not to seem like youre giving them "extra attention" because thatll cause other kids to start up. i hate going to public places where parents are afraid to discipline their kids (or take them somewhere else) and just ignore them as they throw their tantrums. |
