Yeah, that was a pretty bad moment. The writers shouldn't have done that variation of the story. Would have been okay with the parallels between Chandler and Heckles, but it got way too sappy. Not a great moment for the show after two brilliant episodes to open the second season.

"I got off the plane" in the finale was very corny. Sort of ruined the whole episode for me. Although the final scene was nice, and the tearing apart of the foosball table was brilliant.

I thought I wouldn't be able to think of anything but you guys gave some good examples. I never really liked the episode where Heckles did and "I got off the plane" is a very corny moment.

In an old episode, the one where Marcel the friggin monkey gets sick (I think he swallows something) and at the end, he gets better and he grabs Ross's hand and Don Henley's "New York Minute" song plays.
I almost gave up on the show right there...

The Heckles one was pretty bad. That's the only one I can think of that really didn't work for me.
I always found "I got off the plane" corny in a sweet, romanticized way. The Marcel moment I genuinely loved. It worked for me because earlier in the episode Jack Geller was telling Ross, who at the time was freaking out about becoming a dad, that he'd know he was a father the moment his child grabbed his finger. When he ended up saving Marcel's life and Marcel grabbed his finger, Ross's doubts about parenting were cast aside. |
