It was remarked in an episode that Charlie and Alan's father is dead.
If I'm not mistaken I think Charlie said something about him committing suicide. |

Yes. He has to because it's time for a new President. Bartlett's last term is up. So he will be on the west wing only on a few episodes on the new season. I think I heard only 4 episodes.

Martin and Charlie ARE related. They are father and son. Martin Sheen is on the West Wing.
Carlos Irwin Estevez (real name) is the Son of actor Martin Sheen and Janet Sheen. Brother of actor Emilio Estevez and Renée Estevez and Ramon Estevez. Both Martin and Charlie changed their names when they went into the acting business. Martin's real name is Ramon Estevez |
