Default Unrated Movies on DVD

Have any of you guys noticed that more and more mainstream movies are suddenly going unrated when released on DVD? What do you think about that?

It bugs me for some reason. And I don't know why.

I just bought the unrated version of Not Another Teen Movie, but the funny thing was that THERE WAS NOTHING UNRATED ABOUT IT. The movie was raunchy enough when it had an R rating, but the footage that they added was nothing that couldn't be shown at a theater. How dumb. pissed:

Exactly. I remember at one point "unrated" usually meant that the movie was so bad that the film company just wanted to avoid an NC-17.

LOL, the unrated version of "The Girl Next Door" could have easily received an 'R'. Now I hear that Paramount is working on a unrated "Mean Girls."

With unrated horror movies it's usually the case they'd have got an NC-17 if sent to the MPAA. With an unrated Mean Girls, it's an excuse to put out another cut with no rating to make it seem more 'forbidden' or something!

Unrated DVD's sell better though- when a movie has 2 versions out, unrated usually counts for about 90% of the sales.

WTF? It's probably just gonna be the R-rated cut.

Most likely.

Here is one of the scenes they might add/change (from IMDb):
Quote:
In the scene where Cady was asked if her "muffin was buttered", the line was originally going to be, "Is your cherry popped?" The same goes for the girl who "made out with a hot dog" this was going to be "masturbated with a hot dog". These were omitted in order for the film to gain a PG-13 rating instead of a R

Unrated simply means that it is a version of the movie that wasn't approved by the ratings board. In some cases it might have been a movie where certain scenes had to be cut out to avoid an NC-17 and the DVD has those scenes added back into the movie. I think that it is also used to sell more copies of movies, because people hear the word unrated and they think they are going to get more sex and violence. Though even if a scene is added to the movie's DVD release that is totally harmless, if that cut of the movie was never shown to the ratings board then technically it is an unrated version.

I know that. Unrated movies are versions that were not even rated. Kinda more like an R or X rated material. I like to see the unrated version of "Mean Girls" soon.
