Leave it to TV Land to once again aquire a series and not show the entire series. Come on TV Land its one episode # 53 - Herman's Peace Offering. TV Land is notorious for not running series completely and only aquiring select episodes and we all hear the same excuses they give us. It's a shame for a channel that started out 5 years ago running all shows uncut, now they've become just another syndicated superstation with more commercials than needed. Still doesn't explain why they are skipping so many episodes of so many shows. Anyone have any insights i'd love to hear them (other than the usual excuses tv land gives us)

I had already emailed postmaster@tvland.com to inquire about WHY they don't show "Herman's Peace Offering" (either Sunday or Monday), but haven't received a reply from them.

I had emailed them on Saturday regarding the upcoming "fandemonium" of GUNSMOKE...

I told them that I have decided NOT to vote for ep's in the GUNSMOKE fandemonium, and probably not even WATCH it... Hey, a full weekend to watch my own tapes, watch A&E/AMC/TCM, etc, listen to tapes of Old Time Radio or realaudio www.yesterdayusa.com old time radio channel, etc...

Reason -- the TVLand vote is ONLY for the color/60m Gunsmoke episodes (1966/67 thru 1974/75), and doesn't include ANY of the BW/60m ep's (1961/62 -> 1965/66) which TVLand has shown an occasional episode of - and which CBN/Family aired some selected ep's in the 1980's/early 90's, nor is the fandemonium including "Marshall Dillon" (frequent rerun syndication title) - the BW/30m ep's (1955/56 -> 1960/61) episodes. TVLand WAS rerunning some select ep's of the half-hour late 50's Gunsmoke as well as Have Gun Will Travel back in 1997/98 in "TVLand Goes West", but doesn't run any of them anymore!

TVLand/Nick is part of the CBS/Viacom/Paramount media corporate family, thus there is NO excuse for them NOT to air the B&W Gunsmoke episodes. I really am not all that fond of the color late 1960's/early 1970's hour-long Gunsmoke ep's...

And I told them this...

Gunsmoke WAS an OWNED PRODUCTION of the Columbia Broadcasting System from its very inception as a radio audition/pilot in the late 1940's (there were several radio pilot versions of Gunsmoke on CBS Radio in the late 1940's and early 1950's), and then Gunsmoke started a weekly run on CBS Radio (William "Canon" Conrad as Dillon) in Spring 1952, running all the way to June 1961 as a SEPARATE RADIO production/run, even when Arness started doing the CBS-TV version for Fall 1955.

Viacom (which has owned their cable systems and cable program channels such as Nick and TVLand) merged with Paramount (thus getting a lot of old CBS/Desilu programs that Paramount picked up in 1967 when Lucy sold Desilu to Paramount), and now Viacom (which had to be spun out of CBS in 1970/71 to comply with new federal regulations of the time) with Paramount is all part of CBS --- or is it that CBS is part of Viacom/Paramount?

Anyhow -- ALL FULL CIRCLE -- ONE (re)combined media/corporation entity...

The reply I got back from TVLand postmaster was some "lame" excuse about different licensing arrangments "within" the organization...

If it's _ALL_ now CBS/Viacom/Paramount/TVLand/Nick/etc., then there's NO reason NOT to air these episodes.

At least I have a number of B&W half-hour ep's of Gunsmoke I taped off TVLand a few years ago, and B&W early 1960's hourlongs that I taped off CBN/Family 10+ or so years ago. I could watch THOSE during TVLand's (color) Gunsmoke marathon, as well as listen to William Conrad as Matt, Georgia Ellis as Kitty, Parley Baer as Chester, Howard "Floyd the Barber" McNair as Doc CBS Radio editions of Gunsmoke from 1952-61, via my own tapes, or WTIX Radio's "Golden Era of Radio" or Y-USA on the Internet! (What's nice is that many of these 1950's CBS RAD))|((O Gunsmoke tapes still have the original Chesterfield/L&M cigarette commercials! Or promos for CBS Radio's Lowell Thomas, Edward R. Murrow, Eric Severeid, Douglas Edwards, Art Linkletter, Arthur Godfrey, etc. or the 1961 premiere of a full expanded TEN minutes of hourly CBS News on the CBS Radio Network.

As for some of the comments re TVLand...

Nick itself showed M3S, Donna, Dennis, Rt.66, etc. virtually UNcut in the mid-1980's, but then started butchering up the programs for additional commercial time. And they too skipped episodes (I can understand holding off on certain "holiday" themed ones though), or not getting a COMPLETE package of all episodes for airing...

"Donna Reed" is a total of 275 (or 276?) ep'd. Nick only showed 175 (or 176?), yet Screen Gems/Columbia Pictures "could" make ALL of the ep's available if a station requested it... "Donna" was daytime rerun on ABC-TV in the 1960's, even after it ceased production of new ep's for prime-time, and ABC-TV *DID* air ALL of the ep's in daytime reruns... Of course, since ABC-TV was the network that "Donna" originally ran on, they did have the 35-mm prints inhouse from Screen Gems productions...

As for "Munsters: Herman's Peace Offering" --
since it originally aired on 30-Dec-1965, it "might" have some "holiday" New Yrs (eve) theme and that "could" be why TVLand has skipped over it -- but in the weekend marathon to skip over it?????

I totally agree with you. I can't stand it when Nick or TV Land only airs certain episodes of sitcoms. For instance, only airing the color episodes of Petticoat Junction was maddening. The same goes for: My Three Sons, Gilligan's Island, and Gunsmoke, to name a FEW.

They really need to get it together and start listening to we the viewers.

TVLand did show one or two B&W "Petticoat Jct" episodes (from the first, 1963/64 season). I "think" that the reason that the first two (B&W) seasons are not/rarely syndicated/rerun has to do with the residual rights to the actress(es) of the Bradley "Jo" girl(s) who played the part only for the B&W season, and were replaced for the color seasons. The blonde had THREE actresses during the entire run - two for the color years, Gunilla Hutton and then (the late) Meredith Macrae (who also played Sally Morrison who was engaged to, and married Mike Douglas - Tim Considine, the FIRST eldest son of My 3 Sons)...

I was unaware that Nick/TVLand has skipped some Gilligan episodes... At least they are showing the original 1964/65 B&W season *IN* B&W, *WITH* its ORIGINAL opening theme song/visuals, instead of what Ted "phony color" Turner did -- he didn't even colorize the opening theme/visuals of that season - simply replaced it with the 2nd/3rd (color) seasons openings...

I was QUITE happy to see the somewhat different visuals and "style" of the Wellingtons singing the Ballad of Gilligan's Isle, for the 1st (B&W) 1964/65 season on TVLand/Nick recently -- I remember how it was different from years back when WWL-Ch.4 (BTW happens to be the CBS-TV affil) here in New Orleans reran Gilligan at 3:30pm Central M-F (right after CBS had the network daytime/weekday rerun of Gomer from 3->3:30pm Central M-F) back in the early 1970's!

I know that TVLand is skipping some of the B&W M3S on twice-as-nice weekday mornings... I wonder if there is a special reason - maybe these were special for the marathon only, or maybe they have some kind of special or holiday "theme" about them? Nick/TVLand (and other channels/etc) frequently do this regarding "themed" episodes... Even though my favorite years of M3S are the Desilu/Bryant Park seasons (including the first two CBS/Color seasons, 1965/66 and 1966/67), I hope that TVLand intends to air the second half of the 11th (1970/71) season (second batch of 12 episodes) and the entire 12th and final (1971/72) season (24 episodes) - a total of 36 color episodes not in the "160" episode package... Nick *DID* rerun these "final" 36 color episodes back in the 1980's when they reran the B&W/Bub/ABC episodes though...

TVLand has on rare occasions shown a B&W/60m/early 1960's Gunsmoke episode (the ones that CBN/Family reran in the 1980's/early 1990's), and they did show a few select B&W/30m "Marshall Dillon" episodes of Gunsmoke (during "TVLand Goes West"), but I think they've now eliminated that from their regular schedule.

But with all of the nostalgic talk of finding "treaures" of "missing/lost" episodes, I find it VERY ironic that TVLand frquently skips certain episodes, or 'claims' that they don't have the rights to certain seasons...

I heard the reason TV Land didn't show Ep. 53 of The Munsters is because Herman is encouraging Eddie to fight a bully.

I also find it very disturbing that TV land will not show episode 53, I seen it years ago and herman never punched CLYDE the prankster he just told him I am going to knock your block off and then go to lunch, But in one sence lil eddie did punch the school bully on the jaw, A big fat kid named mckinney who was 3 times the size of eddie and did desereve it for giving eddie a black eye and we all know those types from school don,t we??

I mean look at all that violence on MTV today they dont cut out anything and most kids do watch it like its a icon.

The other thing that irks me is when TV land cuts out parts of the munsters, Someone told me they do it to get in more advertising time????

I just saw ep 53 on DVD, and I wonder if TV land is reluctant to show it because of one of the 'pranks' that Clyde tries on Herman. It invloves having a puddle of water on the ground, and rigging up Herman's metal locker to a light socket.
If someone imitated this, it could be a very deadly 'prank'

If they could air all the episodes of "All in the Family" with its subject matter, they have little argument for not airing "controversial" episodes of "The Munsters".
