I had to laugh at the episode where James say $2.50 is too damn expensive for a movie ticket. If he had lived, can you imagine what he would say about $10.00 or $11.00 movie tickets?

The theater where my sister lives charges $4.50 a ticket and $2.50 a ticket for the matinee. What I want is a maxi-saver cinema! $1.00 regular price and 50 CENTS matinee!!! I don't have any around me. |

The average movie ticket price in 1974 was $1.55
When you already have to pinch pennies, $2.50 would be expensive. For $2.50 Florida could buy a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, a gallon of milk, and a 5lb bag of sugar. Give or take one of these items. |

Here, I think the movie tickets cost either seven dollars or eight dollars. We go to see a movie perhaps once a year, twice at the most, so we really do not go very often. If anything, we rent movies but we haven't even been doing that lately. Anyway, it amazed me when we went to the movies. I believe it was back around December. We stopped and saw a movie and the refreshments cost MORE than the tickets!!!!!
I believe that we paid a total of fourteen dollars for two tickets but we paid sixteen dollars for a large tub of popcorn, and two large soda-pops!!!! When I was growing up, around here, the "matinee" was considered the first showing of the day. And if I remember correctly, it was $1.50 to see a matinee.Signed, Respectfully, Dutch |
