Lightbulb Rarest UM stories...again

This topic fascinates me, as I consider it to be one of the "unsolved mysteries" of Unsolved Mysteries....why Lifetime "Television for Women" does not show certain stories. Here is a chronological list of those episodes that, for one reason or another, have not been shown, or are seldom shown...

-The infamous Pre-Stack specials. Discussed on here numerous times.

-From Special 5: Missy Munday and Jerry Strickland hold up a gas station and abduct and kill a man.

-From Special 7: Church going housewife Diane Brodbeck breaks pen pal John Yount out of prison.

-10/5/88 story about UFOs photographed over Gulf Breeze, Florida. The photos were later debunked as a hoax.

-5/3/89 story about the 1980 murder of Secret Service agent Julie Cross, who was killed during a botched mugging.

-9/13/89 story about the unsolved 1987 Florida murder of a gun collector.

-Season one story about Lancaster, California residents who received threatning extortion letters. An update was shown on 5/31/89, and did make it to Lifetime.

-Season one story about the 1986 disappearance of Rogest Cain. His family belives he suffered a stroke and was stricken with amnesia.

-9/20/89 story about the disappearances of Tara Calico and Michael Henley, and the discovery of a Polaroid which may show them together. This was shown at least once on Lifetime during an overnight half hour block.

-10/25/89 story about con-woman Bonnie Wilder who made off with a department store's weekly bank deposit.

-11/8/89 story about retired San Diego officer Doyle Wheeler, who claims other cops tried to kill him after he gave daming testimony about police brutality.

-1/31/90 story about the disappearance of novelist Keith Reinhart, who vanished while working on a story about the real life disappearance of another man the year prior. This was shown at least once on Lifetime during an overnight half hour block.

-11/7/90 story about Dr. Browning who predicted a major eathquake two weeks from the date of the broadcast.

-11/7/90 story about a sighting of missing teen Keri Lyn Nixon at a New Kids on the Block concert.

-12/5/90 story about a Noth Carolina woman who was brutally raped and shot in the face.

-11/25/92 live broadcast from the telecenter.

-12/2/92 story about the murder of Eva Schoen, the wife of U-Haul heir Sam Schoen.

-2/23/94 story about the bizarre hanging deaths of two soldiers.

-4/27/94 story about Kristopher Korper and Roxanne Jo Jeeves, murdered in Texas during the 1981 Christmas season.

-4/14/95 story about the 1991 murders of Eric and Pam Ellender of Sulphur, Louisiana.

Feel free to add any others, but let's try to keep it narrowed to stories not shown on Lifetime, rather than "I have not seen this one in awhile...."

Well they were probably embarassed they showed that Dr. Browning one in the first place. It seemed to fit in better with the Lifetime produced segments.

I have a friend on the board who has many NBC airings and was looking through their list and she has the entire episode that aired yesterday but on NBC the stories were Morris Davis, Treasure in Skeleton Canyon, search for heirs of Dorothea Allen and woman raped and shot in the face in NC. It seems that Lifetime has purposely left this story out. I guess I can see why they would choose not to air this one in the middle of the day. I mean it is one of the most disturbing ones, RS even states something to the effect that it may be hard to watch. It clearly does show a woman being victimized and I guess Lifetime wants to show women at their best. I know all your guys out there are sighing right now but it makes sense.

Maybe it has to do with who produced the specials and maybe they haven't given permisson to show them on lifetime. I like the show Bonanza a lot, but Hallmark and PAX only show episodes they were able to pay a licensing fee. some of the seasons of Bonanza the producers don't want to ever air again. Shame too.

Yeah, God forbid they help this woman by airing her story so there may be a chance that someone recognizes her rapist and calls it in. No, their squeeky clean image and the comfort of their sensitive female audience are way more important.

Some of the stories listed above I've seen on Lifetime recently, most of them I have but there are a couple I've never seen before. I'm not exactly sure why Lifetime never airs the Pre-Stack specials my guess is that they didn't want to pay for the rights to broadcast them.

That makes no sense to show the Morris case who was shot point blank multiple times and DIED, and not show the woman in the woods. They're both disturbing crimes, but at least she lived.

Default I never understood why UM

is on "Lifetime" to begin with - I mean I'm sure you've all seen the promos for "The Golden Palace" or whatever it's called (which btw proved Bea Benadret was THE GOLDEN GIRLS!) and they have these promos with women in their 30s and 40s (obviously the "core" audiance) saying "you the devoted fans of The Golden Girls wanted this spin off on and demanded it and signed for it" - Now as some of you may or may not know UM techincally had a spin off called "Final Appeal" although it aired while UM was still on the air and tanked.

Can you imagine "Lifetime" ever airing a promo saying "You the devoted fans of UM wanted this spinoff or the Burr/Malden specials or certain segments airs and demanded it etc etc." - ALSO FOR GODSAKE IMAGINE IF THEY WERE TRUTHFUL PERTAINING TO THE MATTER OF THE MAJORITY OF THE FANBASE THAT TUNES INTO THEIR NOON-2 PM SLOT!!! - I'm sure "Lifetime" would be overjoyed to have a bunch of males in their late teens-mid 20s representing their CORE AUDIANCE on their commericials!

Later.

Lifetime knows Unsolved Mysteries is a popular show which is why it's been on the network all these years. I doubt you'll see it show up on any other network anytime soon and the fact that Lifetime itself produced the last few seasons further leads me to believe that it will always air there. So I guess we will never again see these "lost" segments..

Has anybody considered writing a letter to Lifetime with these specific segments mentioned, just to see what they do? (I know, they probably wont do anything, but hey, its a start. ) I know I've been surprised that Lifetime has been showing the older episodes for this long a period of time; what is it, like 5 weeks now? Maybe just maybe, they will show a couple of these segments again sometime soon. One can only hope!

I also dont get why they dont show the woman getting shot in the face, who was from NC. I mean, wouldnt Lifetime want to help find her attacker?

Unfortunately, I have a gut feeling Lifetime doesn't even have most of these stories in their posession.

Like Heatherdawn said, they INTENTIONALLY deleted the North Carolina rape/shooting story from that episode that was on the other day and substituted another story in it's place. I'm thinking these edited, basterdized episodes are the only versions they have.

At least the Calico/Reinhardt segments exist in Lifetime's vault somehwere.......oh right, they don't show UM in thirty minute installments anymore!! ::slaps forehead::
