Default Martha Raye as Carrie Sharples

Was the addition of Martha Raye as Mel's mother necessary? Some fans I know of the show did not like her at all and felt she was an instrusion to the cast of Alice. They thought she wasn't funny and that she was obnoxious.

I didn't have no problems with her when I watched the show as a kid, but if I saw some Martha Raye episodes now as an adult she might annoy me. Back then I never knew she was a popular movie star and funny lady. To me she was the Polident Lady who was on Alice.

Default Martha Raye

To me one of the moments when Alice jumped the shark was when Martha Raye and Linda Lavin sang- do ya think i'm sexy. no.

This board is for fans of the show "Alice." If all you can do is criticize the show, then do it elsewhere.

We are fans of the show. Haven't you heard of sarcasm? You don't have a sense of humor enough to bash things you do like? Everybody does it to some degree. Don't be so sensitive, Jeek!

Do it elsewhere. This board is not for criticizing the show or its actors.

There is absolutely no negative behavior here. None at all until you showed up.

Really? Apparently there was some negativity here back in November of 2000, a full FOUR years before I arrived. TJ, the admin here, felt the need to post the following here back in November 2000:

No, Martha Raye is long gone. I heard the sales of Polident took a deep decline as well.
