Bridesmaid dresses... - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

anyone been in a wedding or planned a wedding? If so, got any bridesmaid dresses horror stories? or dresses that you absolutley loved?

reason i'm asking is i'm very torn on what color to choose--I can't seem to decide. I think i'm going to do is pick the color, and let the bridesmaid pick the dress that fits them best and that they feel most comfy in. But I can't pick a damn color! Any suggestions and/or stories?

I've been a bridesmaid in a couple weddings. One was a cobalt blue (that I still have and use for dances) and the other one was green. I haven't worn it since. It's nice and all but not my color.

I've been lucky...the dresses never have been that bad.

I used Colbalt Blue and a purplie-royal blue for the matron of honour for a May wedding.

When is the wedding Melissa - (season) - you could tie in some autumn colours if its in the fall (depending on the skintones and hair colour of your bridesmaids).

Just stay away from cream. A girlfriend of mine went with that, and in pictures they're outfits showed up just as white as the brides!!

the wedding is in March... i'm thinking about an apple color, like this:

That is nice - and rich in colour for that time of the year. Should also go well with any skintone or haircolour. Flowers will be easy to coordinate too - actually, calla-lilies would go beautifully.

Also, it's a colour and style they can wear again - doesn't scream "bridesmaid".

Hopefully you won't have a matron of honour who decides to restyle the dress before the wedding (on her own) like my "scum-in-law" did! Bitch cut a full-length gown to just below her knees so she could wear it somewhere else! I couldn't believe it!

Oh the stories I could tell you about this twit! We had to postpone the wedding and I asked both girls (I only had two), if they would mind just hanging onto the dresses and accessories I had bought for them until we could reschedule. She felt she had the right because it was longer than six months. Meanwhile, if anything, we could have survived if it has been the bridesmaid and not matron-of-honour who did it. The craziest thing is that I designed the dresses myself (for heavier girls) and it needed the length to balance the look - once it was cut, it looked like absolute garbage!

some people just don't get it!

that's one of the reasons why i'm letting the bridesmaid pick their own style... i don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable, so i want them to wear what they want (within reason, of course). But they will obey the color

That's why I had their input when I was designing the dresses! I wanted something they would both like, and that I'd like too - that looked appropriate for their sizes (one was about 185 lbs. and the scum-in-law was pushing 300 lbs). They also had input on the colour even. I did everything I could to please both of them (another reason I kept the number to two) and she still screwed me. Meanwhile, you ought to see the ridiculous way she dressed me for her wedding! I was SOOOO embarrassed to wear it but didn't say anything and went along with everything she wanted. No wonder we don't even speak to each other anymore!

That's great you're letting them choose their styles. I personally wouldn't allow that. I know the bride is always the most beautiful person at her wedding, but it would be a cold day in hell that I'd let my bridesmaids wear sexy or revealing dresses.

I wouldn't put them in the ugly puffy deals, but I would decide what they would wear. It would be something elegant and very stylish, but no low fronts or backs or anything in between. On my wedding day, only I stood out.

I would have to really trust my bridesmaids to allow them to pick the styles.

I live down the street from a reception hall and Ive seen some Deusy dresses, ill tell you....Dresses that say: " Look at me....on second thought, DONT!!!!"

That's true with some brides, most definitely. I would never want my bridesmaids to look hideous, but no way are they going to wear these incredibly sexy dresses either. I have a friend, who back in our 20s, if given the opportunity, would have worn a scene stealing dress at my wedding. And she was gorgeous...an absolute dead-ringer for a young Susan Lucci. Now I was hot myself (sorry, true), but no way was I letting anyone upstage me.

Elegant and stylish is the way to dress the bridesmaids. Also, it's best to have a style that is flattering to all figures, petite, medium and plus size.
