I know people who never liked Maude and never thought her show was funny at all. My father never liked it. I remember in the 80's when a local station ran it my father would be like "Oh, God! I can't believe they're still showing that loudmouthed pushy _itch of a bully on TV. She wasn't funny. Whoever said this show was funny?"
Was Maude a bully or was she just a very vocal and strongly opinionated woman that didn't sweeten the truth when she spoke to you. |

I thought she was very funny....pushy, maybe , but, i think that was the premise of the show, a woman who knew what she wanted and wasnt letting anyone stop her, especially her rather easy-going husband, interestingly, the show ended with that character ( Walter ) commiting suicide

A few episodes of an aborted seventh season were filmed with Maude in Congress, and she was the only the original character from the old show format. Bill Macy no longer wanted to be on the show, and they had Maude and Walter separate because Walter did want involved in the hectic life of a Congresswoman. He did not commit suicide. Bea Arthur wanted out too and just quit.

I tried looking up info too and saw nothing about a suicide.

I guess it would be possible for somebody married to Maude to commit suicide. Poor Walter did act at times like he wanted to. Boy, they got into those fights involving smashed windows and dishes!

Maude was actually, deep down, somewhat insecure and sensitive. She came across as a pushy loudmouth who ranted and raved, but if you watch closely she would occasionally let her guard down and show a great amount of depth. In this way, she was similar to a female Ralph Kramden of The Honeymooners.
