I recently watched a DVD of the UFO series, that I bought. On it was the "Missing Time" segment, which I remembered seeing it as a teen, I think that it aired originally on the 1st or 2nd season??
Anyways, I love that piece, re:an Air Force private 1st class man in 1966 waiting at a Cape-Cod bus stop @ a small convenience store (Dutras Market- the fact that I spent many summers as a kid in the Cod kind of "hit home" for me) and he saw some flashing lights in the sky; when he arrived he phoned the base so that he can be picked up, but then apparently a Jeep arrived and they didn't see the Private. The Private phoned the base and saw the lights in the sky (Ufo? ), then at what he thought was 15 min or so later he re-phoned the base to ask when were they coming. The Air Force man on the phone told him that a Jeep had arrived 4 min. after his 1st call but that he wasn't there. Then at the base he was briefed by a few superiors, and the Private thought that they did that to all Privates back from a leave, to test them or something. He only remembered the lights in the sky, and the AF men were showing him pics of AF planes, but none of it were what the Private saw. He then went to Vietnam. 15 yrs or so afterwards while on holidays, the now-former Private bought a book called "Intruders" by Budd Hopkins. He saw a little alien on its cover, and it triggered deep memories for him. The segment then talks about these memories and its relation to the incident at Cape Cod in 1966, and shows other re-enactments and people who experienced the phenom of "missing time". I admit that this segment originally creeped the heck out of me, not that it's about a gruesome murder but more about the almost "casualness" of the whole thing, and the fact that "missing time" CAN happen, even if one has no recollection of seeing lights in the sky or abductions. I'm gonna go to the library this week and get the "Missing Time" book, written by the same author as "Intruders" and the man who hypnotized the people in that UM segment. Anyone else spooked out by it? Anyone remembered it when it aired, or when it was shown in re-runs later on? Missing time is a fascinating subject. I'm glad that they've put it on the UFO DVD set. Def. one of the best UFO-related segment. The casualness of it all is what's creepy!! |

You're right about that segment. I made a mention of it in the "rarest um segment" thread. Lifetime doesn't air it all. It's been with me since it debuted. I even wrote a journal entry about it back in 1989 in my 6th grade notebook! ha!!!

Missing Time has a special memory with me as it was the first UM UFO segment I ever saw, and I still haven't completely lost my interest in aliens yet. The 3 lights moving from side to side freaked me out! Not to mention those drawings of the aliens. For a while afterwards, I had a fear of aliens with large heads and eyes. |

I agree this was a great segment, when I first saw it, it creeped me out. I can't remember if I ever saw it on Lifetime.

Definitely one of the most intreguing segments on that UFO DVD. You get the impression that these people apparently did experience this phenomenon, but it boggles the mind just exactly how it could actually be possible that something like this occured. Also the scenes with the footage of the hypnotizing (was that real footage?) in this and other related segments were also creepily intreguing.
