What two things are incorrect about the film title: McHale's Navy Joins The Air Force.
My cousin has presented me with this question. Can anyone help me? Thanks, PMF |

One mistake is "Air Force". Back during WWII, it was the Army Air Corps.

Ernest Borgnine did not participate in this movie and thus there is no Lt Cmdr Quinton McHale in this movie.

I always took it to mean that "McHale's Navy" was more a term of McHale's crew (the 6 guys that made up the "crew"). So, even if McHale isn't in the movie itself, it can still be about "McHale's Navy" (i.e. Parker, Gruber, Tinker, Moss, Haines and Farrell) can't it?
The T.V. show "JAG" (Judge Advocate General) isn't about the Judge Advocate General, i.e. Admiral Chegwidden, although he has a part in the show. It is mostly about the people working for the JAG. (I know this is a weak example, but I couldn't really think of another one...) I never saw the movie (McHale's Navy joins the Air Force), so I can't really voice a strong opinion on this matter, but these are just my thought on the matter... I'll keep quiet now. :-) Dave |

I'm sure the producers of the movie readily concur with your view.
But the guy who posed the trivia question was undoubtably searching for this answer. This was the only thing I could see wrong with the title until BigMk posted the other half. Or do you see a third problem with the title? And remember, the tv series and the first movie did have McHale as the leading character. It was very jarring to watch this movie and see no McHale. A Gilligan's Island movie without Gilligan would be a more apt analogy. |
