Default This show was almost the Black version of Happy Days if there was...

A Husband for Mabel and a character like Fonzie. But all the others characters were Similar to the ones on Happy Days

Roger-Richie Cunningham
Dwayne-Potsie
Rerun-Ralph
Dee-Joanie
Soda Shop-Arnold's

It was close, just minus two charcters. Anyone Agree?

I noticed that for the longest. I remember I posted a topic on the General Sitcoms board a while back asking everyone which of the 2 they like because of the similarities. Just remember, Happy Days was based on "American Grafitti" and What's Happening was based on "Cooley High"

Wouldn't Dwayne be more similar to Ralph and Rerun be more like Potsie? I always connected those together.

No, because Postie was Stupid just like Dwayne. Rerun was a Joker like Ralph.

Default More Like The Black and the 70's version of the 3 Stooges

I always thought of What's Happening!! as the black and the 70's version of the 3 Stooges.

I never thought of that before, but you make some good points.

Don't forget Rerun DID portray The Fonz in the episiode "The Last Page."

I heard it said once that the man who wrote Cooley High sought to make a black version of Happy Days.

I read that too, so the coincidences are meant to be I suppose.
