I was reading a Jet Magazine from Sept of 1978 and it was stated in the article that Carl was supposed to be moved to a Veterans Hospital near Chicago in a episode of season 6. Either it never happened or the scene that mentions Carl being moved to a Veterans Hopsital was never seen again after it aired on CBS for the first time. Maybe they had to explain where was carl on CBS but didn;t have to in syndication. Just a Thought

Even so, the episodes made Florida appear as if she never married anyone after James. Surely she would have made some kind of small talk abt Carl.

I think it just looks that way in syndication.

I am talking back in the days when CBS ran the reruns during the summer, I don't recall ever a mention of Carl at all.

carl is mentioned briefly in the 2nd episode of Florida's Homecoming but that was it. Florida told Michael that she and carl bought him a gift

I agree with Irene. Florida never mentioned Carl again, even though I'd completely forgotten about him when Thelma married that "guy" who calls himself a football player. I'm from DC and that's like a member from the Washington Redskins living in Southeast DC.

As a mother, I would talk abt my marriage to my daughter and if my circumstances were like Florida's I would have mentioned "my two loves".
