Default Old Florida

Does anyone else find it odd that they tried to pass off Florida as being the same age as Willona?! I was so confused during that marathon. It's also unbelievable for her to be married to James, but that at least looks somewhat realistic in a way. But I saw an episode from the last season and Willona mentioned Florida in high school and at that point, Florida looked 55-60 and Willona looked 30-35.

Willona never looked 30 to me in any of the seasons of Good Times. The youngest she looked was 37. I will say Florida looked 10-15 years older than Willona.

When the show initially aired, Willona was actually 29 years old. Florida was 54, and James 35.

Willona would have probably looked more her age if she had worn her natural hair. IMO wigs can make you look alot older.

Florida was actually old enough to be everyones mother

I really do think they did a good job of making John Amos look older.

I don't see why they would try to make John Amos look older. It's like they wanted to make him look Florida's age and then still tried to create the illusion that they were all in their 30's.

I don't recall the illusion of viewers believing that Florida and James was in their 30's. It was stated in the 1st ep that James was 41

Well, Florida said that she was 3 years younger than James so that would make her 38!

I don't know. Something about the performances makes me ignore the age differences of the adult characters, however as I rewatching the show on DVD Jimmie Walker and Bern'Nadette Stanis stick out as being unbelievable as teenagers. I think that they intentionally had Bern'Nadette wear her hair in a pulled back hairdo a lot of the time to make her seem younger, but she never seemed teenage to me, nor did Jimmie. I could go along with Florida being in her 40s and being in the same age range as James though, and Willona seemed like a vivacious mid 30s-40 year old to me.

You are right, Jimmie Walker was 26 playing the role of a 16 year old going on 17 and Thelma was 22 playing a Teenager

I believe JJ as a teenager. I couldn't believe he was 26 when he was doing this show. I know it's just the character, but he seems like a teenager to me. At least 19.

I agree with Irene, JJ seemed young to me. Maybe it was because he acted like a fool 99% of the time.
