Need help!

I need some help finding out who the actual writer of the series was. I know they say it was Norman Lear but I have just come across information that contradicts this and would like to verify. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it .

Norman Lear created the series, but I don't think he actually ever wrote any episodes. There were, however, many writers who contributed to this show. But Bob Schiller and his late writing partner, Bob Weiskopf (who died last year) were the script editors who supervised the scripts and occasionally wrote some. Schiller and Weiskopf had a long writing career, both together and independently, that extended back to the days of radio. Their biggest early success as a writing team came when they joined "I Love Lucy" during its later seasons (their first contribution to that series was the two-part episode where Lucy, Ethel, and Fred steal John Wayne's footprints from Grauman's Chinese Theatre). After "I Love Lucy" and its successor "The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show" (aka "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour"), they continued writing series television, including "The Lucy Show," "The Danny Thomas Show," Red Skelton, and Flip Wilson. By the early '70s, they were frequent writers for "All in the Family." That, of course, led to their central role on "Maude." The very diverse array of successful shows they wrote for -- sketch comedy for Skelton and Wilson, Lucille Ball physical comedy, adult situation comedy (AITF and "Maude") -- demonstrates just what gifted writers they were.
