"Mod" was asking about the first Carol and why the actress who played her was not retained for the series. I've wondered about that myself, though I still like Adrienne Barbeau. But I have another question. John Amos appeared in a handful of "Maude" episodes playing Florida's husband, Henry Evans. When Florida was spun off to her own show, "Good Times," John Amos continued to play her husband, but all of a sudden his name was James, not Henry. Does anyone know why they changed his character's name?

Last night, I watched the first and only season 1 episode he was in. I was curious myself. I guess the producers just wanted to change his name......? I'm not sure if there's a real reason behind this. Anyone know anything about this?

I never found out why his name was changed, but that was always one of the reseasons that it was hhard for me to connect Good Times to Maude because of the inconsistency of John amos character name

A simple name change does not completely disconnect everything. GT still maintained the Henry name. |

I don't know why they changed his name. But they not only changed his name, they changed his profession and where they lived.
I think Good Times was not the typical spinoff. It took just a character from Maude and built a sitcom around her instead of having any connection back to Maude. Another example was The Jeffersons. We never really heard anything about Archie and Edith during The Jeffersons. However, we did here about Archie and Edith on Maude. |

You are correct, Bullet. To say that "Good Times" was a spin-off of "Maude" isn't really acurate. Aside from the examples you listed above, not only was there never any mention of Florida ever being Maude's maid, but it seemed as if James (Henry) and Florida had never lived in NY. Apparently, the Evans family had lived in Chicago all along. |

The name "Henry" ended up being the name for James Evans father on Good Times.

Huh. I was saying that when James' father visited the Evans, he was called HENRY.

No no no no...but isn't it weird that James' name on MAUDE was Henry, but on GOOD TIMES his father's name ended being HENRY.
