Default The sleeping arrangements on Good Times

Florida and Thelma should've had the room James and Florida used, and James and the boys could've used Thelma's room. Her bedroom is bigger than mine!! Nobody would've had to sleep on the pull-out bed. Can you imagine not having your own room or having barely any personal belongings to keep? It looked like Thelma had a lot of junk in her room, but the poor boys didn't own anything except their clothes. Lousy!

The parents not sleeping together, I don't think so.

The sleeping arrangements as they were portrayed were very typical for the space that they had.

If they truly wanted their kids to have a real room they could've done that. I guess there is no written law that says the mom and dad HAD to have a room together. I did know some families where the mom and dad had their OWN room each!

I thought that Micheal and JJ moved into their parents room after Florida left.

They stayed on the couch when James left.

The episode where JJ has the dream that he's white, he just layed on the couch instead of going to bed. Micheal was in the bedroom.

There were a few episodes that showed Michael and JJ coming from the bedroom.

IMO the whole purpose of James and Florida not sleeping in seperate bedrooms was to stay with the parental/family concept that Esther Roll and John Amos wanted to portray. That was one of the things that upset Esther Roll with John Amos leaving. She wanted it to be a two parent house hold, not a single parent house hold with an absent father. They did not want it to be stereotypical of most house holds in the project which are unfortunately primarily families with an absent father.

JJ is the stupidest, he was like the main bread winner of the family, he should've had the room.

Come on now, the parents sleeping in seperate rooms, what kinda marriage would that be. They did what they could with what they had. Thelma had a room because she was the only girl so it was logical that JJ and Michael slept on the sofa bed. They were lucky to have a sofa bed, those things aren't cheap.
