Lightbulb Background Music...

Has anyone else noticed that in the episode "Cover Boy" in Season 2 when Ted switches the mood music, it is the background music that is used in "Bess You Is My Daughter Now" from Season 1 when Mary and Bess have a day out??

I think it's Fox being cheap with the music licensing. Look for more of the same if they release future seasons. For example, on the most recent syndication run of MTM that is airing on TV Land Canada they changed the theme music on the game show that Ted tries out for to something that sounds like a clock ticking, kind of like Beat the Clock. When Lou and Edie break up and later go on a date, they changed Lou singing in his office while getting ready for the date to some nonsense humming. In the fantasy with Ted and Mary on their wedding night, originally Ted sings The Wedding Song while Mary's in the bathroom changing. The new version has someone trying to sound like Ted humming jibberish.

It's WKRP all over again; thanks Fox.

Also in, We Closed In Minneapolis, when Mary comes home from rehearsal, they use the music from the *very* ending part of 'A Day With Bess' here. I think it's kinda neat, myself.

1) I'll have to listen for that when I start the cycle over again...I'm currently two episodes into Season 4, viewing one or two every Saturday night, and of course because of @*#&%^% Fox, I don't have Seasons 5-7, so I'll just go back to Season 1. I will say you people are very sharp eyed AND eared!
2) TVLandCanada is re-running MTM???? Have any of our fine Canadian friends recorded Seasons 5-7 on DVD? I know I'd pay for them now in case @*#&^% Fox doesn't release them!
3) ClassicTVGal, LOVE the MTM Lost Deer in the Forest pic! What can you tell me about that????

I know you were asking Erin about her avatar, but I believe it's a screencap from "Party is Such Sweet Sorrow" that I cropped and added text to for her. Hope that helps!

Actually Kristen, that capture is from Season 4's episode: It's Better Late...That's A Pun...Than Never when Mary is fired. Party Is Such Sweet Sorrow is from Season 1, LOL.

PGood - Thanks so much! Ted asks (when Mary turns around) Why she's turning around and looking like a lost deer in the forest. And a bunch of other questions that neither Murray or Mary are paying attention too. haha

{Sorry for the delay in replying, my mom and I went shopping for some things today and then when we got back we found out her older brother had passed away sometime this week -- so we've been on the phone *a lot*.}

Erin,
You're right. I didn't pay attention to the hair, LOL. But I knew it was a time when she thought she was leaving WJM for good. So at least I was close...sort of.

PGood, I'll be glad to make an avatar for anybody here. All you need to is email me a pic and tell me what text, or whatever you want.

That is a cute little tune.

Yeah that's probably it. I guess it's one of those things we can't change. And Fox isn't the only one who does it, as we all know. And while it takes one body to be cheap, it takes the other (ASCAP) to be EXPENSIVE. I thought I could rally people into stopping it, but I suppose it's a fact of reality I need to accept.

On the other hand, the music thing isn't as intrusive on MTM as it would be on WKRP or on Happy Days. Guess all we can do, for those of us with the DVDs, is enjoy the characters and storylines, that's why we watched in the first place, right?

Of course, if anyone out there has versions of S1-4 episodes with original music intact (and heck, the REST OF THE SERIES)...look me up ;-)

Oh, the Samantha/Louise quote was from a Bewitched episode in Season 2 called "Double Split".
