Everyone seems to think that the "Tallulah Bankhead" and "Danny Thomas" episodes of "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" are the best of the 13 hour-long episodes, and I agree....but I think that coming in a close third is the one where Lucy gets a job as Paul Douglas' "Girl Friday" on his morning TV show.
That episode has some GREAT Lucy "schtick" in it....Lucy trying to look and act sexy so can compete with the other "Girl Friday" job applicants, Lucy trying to put stick-on clouds and sun on the weather board, Lucy trying to save a lobster that Douglas is planning to boil on the air, and of course, the finale with Lucy completely out of it on sleeping pills while Douglas is trying to do a live cereal commercial....you can actually hear Desi HOWLING off-camera during that scene! While some of the "Comedy Hour" guest stars simply did not comfortably fit into the "Lucy-Desi" format (most notably, Ida Lupino & Howard Duff), Paul Douglas was superb with his frustrated, slow-burn takes, and he was an excellent straight-man for Lucy. So let's hear it for the "Paul Douglas" episode as one of the better "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hours"! |

My favorite has alway been the Fred MacMurray episode. That episode is the second memory of watching TV that I have. The first is Dinah Shore singing and the third is Laura Petrie trying to open a package with her teeth!

I completely agree. That's my third favorite as well. First is the Danny Thomas episode, followed by Tallulah Bankhead. I'm not sure what my #4 is. It's probably a tie between "Lucy Hunts Uranium" and "Milton Berle Hides Out at the Ricardos," though each of those episodes contains elements I don't like. In Uranium, it's the segment with Lucy in the phone booth pretending playing the part of Fred MacMurray's wife. In the Berle episode, it's the musical-comedy segment at the end, and the part where Lucy, Ricky and Milton are stuck suspended in the air by that crane. Very, very bad (i.e., cheap) special effects help ruin that segment (what happened to the big production budget this show was supposed to have?).

My favorite Lucy Desi Comedy Hour episode is Lucy Hunts Uranium! That episode includes the funniest high speed car chase in history! That last 15 minutes of the show when everyone is chasing everyone else and trying to get to the claims office first is hysterical!!! Some of my favorite moments in Lucy history!
