29 years later, and that episode ending is still the most chilling TV sitcom moment I've ever seen.

I never got to see the show when it was in reruns. So I have been watching the marathon all day. It is a very funny show, I find J.J. funny but it was a big mistake to kill off the father. I really like James and the chemistry he had with Florida, JJ and the rest of the cast was so nice. Now they are showing the episodes without him and it is really not the same and then Esther Rolle (Florida) leaves also. In my opinion James was the heart of the show. It is so sad that the character was killed off.

When was it on?! I've been trying to follow for most of the day and didn't see it. I hope they somehow rerun it tomorrow. That's the episode that always stood out for me and I'd love to see it again (even if they are chopping them up).

I'm watching a few episodes of this mararthon, aside from the editing, my only complaint is that the commercials last too long, especially at the end of the episode.

Funny how this board comes alive over a marathon. I guess GT fans are not buying the DVDs like we think we are.

I agree, the board is very active because of EDITED eps on TV LAND and not when UNEDITED eps were released on DVD

Angry Edited!!

Just as I suspected TV Land would do to "good Times". They cut out certain segments and opening scenes and closing scenes. Like in "Willona's Surprise", they cut out Thelma's phone convo with J.J., and I'm not even going to mention other episodes. If this is what Tv Land is doing to the show in the editing department, then I'll wait for the DVDs and the episodes on TVOne.

LOL-i know what you mean, the real ending of Willona's Surprise is Willona Calling the Bakery and then being hugged by Florida. TV LAND ended the ep after Ray left-LOL

I haven't watched that much of the marathon (I don't enjoy the show as much now as I did when it first ran, probably because I was 13 or 14 when it premiered, and now I'm 30 years older, my tastes have changed in a lot of areas), although I looked for a couple of episodes that I remember enjoying when they first ran...

I like the one about Michael's IQ score being low...that was awesome when the computer the test administrator was using blew up in his face at the end of the episode... and when James kept trying to grab the computer away from him...that was great!

The guy who played the test administrator later appeared in a whole bunch of movies in the 80s and 90s, but I can't remember his name... he and James played off of each other very well in that one scene.
