Looking for Information on Early Segment - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Greetings, fellow UM fans! I was delighted to discover this forum while doing a Google search tonight seeking additional information on some of the cases featured on the "Bizarre Murders" DVD set (which I recently purchased at an excellent price from Overstock.com).

I have been watching UM from the beginning and have enjoyed it in all of its different incarnations. I don't know if the segment in which I'm interested was featured on one of the specials, or in the show's first season. I've asked others who watched UM if they remember it, and no one seems to...So this forum is my last (but likely best) hope!

This really bizarre story featured a man (in Wyoming, I think) who mysteriously disappeared without a trace. His car was found by the side of a highway, and his footprints could be followed for a few yards or so, then they, too, mysteriously vanished. His parents had received telephone calls from the missing man, who claimed he was being held captive against his will. The calls were traced to a trailer, whose occupant claimed to know nothing about the situation.

Perhaps my memory is faulty, and I'm collapsing a couple of different segments into each other, but I really don't think so...I remember how intriguing the story was and how it's stayed with me all these years after first seeing it. I wonder what the outcome in that case was?

Can anyone lend a helping hand to the newbie? Thanks in advance! I'm looking forward to getting better acquainted with all of you in the future.

episode of UM which was hosted by Raymond Burr rather than Robert Stack and was the first segment aired on this show. I just got copies of all of the pre-stack specials from a friend of mine and this is the case of a Wyoming man named Don Kemp - He apparently wanted to get away from the "high life" in New York City and sold off nearly all of his possessions so he could move west to the Wyoming countryside. He also had a vast interest in Civil War history specifically in Abe Lincoln (who he planned to write a book about) and on the day he vanished he stopped at a local "Civil War" museum in Wyoming, wandered around for two hours but didn't talk to anyone.

On his way out he left his briefcase at the museum. A short while later he got in touch with the museum and asked them if they still had his briefcase - When they replied in the affirmative he said he would be by to pick it up but he never did. A short while after his car was found abandoned, still running by the side of the road with all of his possessions both inside and some strewn across the road but he was nowhere to be found. An extensive search was launched of the sparsely populated area surrounding the car but no trace could be found of the man.

A few days later a big blizzard hit the area and four years later the man's body was found in the desert. Police concluded that he had died from exposure to the cold during the blizzard. Don's family however believe he was abducted and murdered. Prior to police locating Don's body more articles of clothing were found in the desert and near an abandoned barn in the desert. Strangley enough by the barn it appeared that Don had tried to "walk backwards" in his own footprints to cover his tracks. Police claim this was done to prevent them from tracking his movements.

Around the time when police allege Don should have already perished due to exposure during the blizzard several reported sightings of Don were given in a nearby town and a friend of Don's alleges recieving several messages on her answering machine from him. These calls were traced back to a trailer owned by a local Wyoming man. Some calls made from this trailer were explicit "Phone Sex" like telephone calls relating to Don's disappearance. However when both police and Don's mother questioned the man in the trailer he denied any knowledge as to what happened to Don.

My theory on this while it is a baffling case when you get down to it - it seems like the police theory on this is pretty much correct although there are some inconsistences which do bear mention/investigation.
