For some reason, I always thought that Mary Tyler Moore passed Bloomingdale's on her tour of the town in the opening credits. Later, I realized that it was Donaldson's. What is Donaldson's? And did she indeed pass Blooimingdale's even though the sign wasn't as obvious?

Donaldson's was a department store in downtown Minneapolis which has since met its demise (I'm not sure what year...it was gone before I moved here.) It was the rival to Dayton's (which can also be seen in the opening credits) across the street. Dayton's still exists, but it changed its name to Marshall Field's a few years ago.

As far as I know, the only Bloomingdale's that has ever been in the Twin Cities area is the one in the Mall of America in Bloomington...which was the site of Met Stadium back in Mary Richards' day.
