Default How well do you take criticism?

Can you handle people telling you your faults and shortcomings?

I can't. I cry and get defensive.

Sad

I CANNOT stand criticism. I shrivel and break. No such thing as "constructive criticism." Makes about as much sense as "helpful humiliation."

I wish I could, but 9 times out of 10 they are just saying it to help, but most of the time I over analyze it and end up thinking they hate me

Yep, same here. It depends on what they are talking about, sometimes I can shake it off.

Yep - I used to be the same way. I hated it when the person was putting you down, but then adds, "Its just some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism". Yeah right.

I have become a lot better at accepting it though that I've become a lot less insecure. A lot has to do with the way its presented to you also I find. There really IS a way of criticising someone while still keeping their dignity intact. It's a real skill I think. Janice is someone that has that gift.

I've also worked on how to give it as much as receive it.

It all depends who it is coming from and HOW they say it. Yes, how they say it. If it's in a sincere manner and it comes from a friend, then I can take usually take it into consideration. If it's in a raunchy and pissy mood and coming from my sister, then we argue over "how" it was said. I hate when she tells me, "You are so touchy and cannot take it! You just can't accept it." Hmmm... well, I am a firm believer in what tone it is said. Non-verbals are everything to me....

I don't take it well. I have trouble getting what they said out of my head.

This is how I feel. If the person is sincere and telling me, as a friend, I won't get upset. If the person is just trying to piss me off and agitate me, I usually get really upset.

MMmmhmm, ditto. I hate being that way. I think if anyone finds something wrong with me, I'm a worthless piece of **** and I could be better. I don't show it, though, actually. I just smile and go "okay okay" but that's not how I feel.

WHY, WHO'S CRITICIZING ME?!? You talking to me?? You want a piece of me?? You have no right to criticize me. I don't need to listen to this crap!!

Kidding, I'm okay as long as it's done with respect and sincerity.
