Default 11 year old girl arested for throwing rocks at a boy for defending herself

Fresno,California.

An 11- year old girl who threw rocks to defend herself as neighborhood boys pelted her with water ballons is being prosecuted on a felony assault with adeadly weapon.

Maribel Cuevas says she did'nt mean to hurt the 9 year old boy who acknowledged to officersthat he started the fight in late April. He was released from the hospital after getting his head stitched up.Maribel already hasspent five days in juvenile hall with one and a half hours vist from her parents. She then spent 30 days under house arrest wearing a GPS ankel bracelet to monitor her whereabouts and is now due back in court early next month.

What is worng with this? Are court system is really messed up.

I'm going to side with the officers. The boys were throwing water balloons but she threw rocks. Water balloons don't hurt people.

EDIT: Now if she was previously bullied by him in the past, I think they should show a LITTLE compassion.

I agree with Brian. I think the girl is at fault as well as the boy. Water balloons may be a
nuisance but they are not considered a deadly weapon. The girl ought to have showed
some restraint.

Unless the water balloons were filled with nitro.
I'm not sure if I'd make it assault with a deadly weapon, but if the guy were to get a concussion or have his eye put out, etc., then yeah. And if the kid died, then definitely.

Okay let me get this straight, we can arrest a child and put a tracking devise on her, but we can't keep track of people who are here as terorrist cells in our country, or high risk child molesters who pose a threat to our children.

Just wanted to make sure I had it right.

Your right, this country(usa) needs to shape up. It's like the guy who got shot while holding his baby girl and the police shot them 90 times and themonther was trying to stop the police, the baby died so did the father, but he was on drus and had some,I forgot where it was,to many people on drugs,it's just messes up your mind.

Causing serious injuries to other kids to where they have to go to the hospital and get stitches isn't part of being a kid. you can't assume that she was throwing light gravel at them. the rocks obviously were pretty big if he had to go to the hospital.

Water balloons are harmless. rocks are not. there was no injustice served in this case.

Maybe I overspoke in this case because it was water balloons. When I was a kid we did throw rocks at each other. I got hit a few times. It never ocurred to me to call the police. It was just the way it was.Heck some kid shot a Bee Bee gun at me once and I never called the police.

I still think the police over-reacted though. Putting an ankle bracelet on her. They don't even do that with a lot of murderers. I think their might be a civil suit here but I don't think its a criminal case. If she was older then 11 I might have a different opinion.

Yah, I know I did. I think that 30 days of house arrest is completely ridiculous for an eleven year old who threw a rock. If some kid was pelting me with water balloons I'd throw a rock at them, too.

the kid had to have stitches. he could have been killed. you can't assume that the rock weighed just a few ounces.
