My favorite character is Mary Richards herself. She's everybody's friend, she's warm, generous, and optimistic. She really can (Pardon the cliche!) turn the world on with a smile! (Sorry about that, had to do it! LOL) Honestly though, while Mary is far and away my favorite, MTM was an ensemble comedy, and everyone had their moment.

(I know this topic was posted some time ago but I just recently came across it)

I'd say my favorite character would have to be Sue Ann. Why you ask? I have no idea.

My favorite character is Mary Richards, I can't really explain why though. I also liked Rhoda and Mary's friendship. However, Mr. Grant had A LOT of GREAT lines. I think that one of my favorites of his is in an episode of Rhoda. It was when Rhoda and Joe were going to get married, and the night before the wedding they had a little dinner at their house and Mary and the gang were there. Then, when Joe and Rhoda didn't show up, Mary explained that Rhoda told her that she and Joe were going on their last date before they got married. Then, when everyone heard this, they all went Awe!!!! and thought that it was so cute. Then Mr. Grant, with no emotion at all in his voice said, "Cute... cute as hell." And it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny!!!!!!!!!! It just cracked me up!

Marta-
The scene you're referring to is absolutely one of my faves. "Cute...cute as hell" cracks me up too! I love when Rhoda comes back from her date w/ Joe, and Phyllis like, "Tell me what you did" and Rhoda just gives this little knowing laugh, and Ida's like, "I don't think I wanna hear this!" or something.

(After Mary's famous job interview)
Lou Grant:You know what? You've got spunk!
Mary Richards:Well, yes.
Lou Grant:I HATE SPUNK!!!
