CBS hands down! CBS really pushed the envelope creatively and socially during the 70's. ABC for the most part, always played it safe.

CBS had the better shows, but I only really liked One Day, Maude and MTM from their 70's output. I loved a lot of ABC's 70's shows tho. But as a whole, CBS won hands down in terms of writing. If I recall correctly, Taxi was the only ABC Emmy-winning show of the 70's.

The both had their fair share of good series, but ABC had my favorite (Taxi), while CBS had more shows I enjoyed.

Of course, there's always NBC, but they were almost in as bad shape in the 70s as they are today. God, all they really had was Sanford & Son and Chico & The Man.

CBS would win hands down for me simply because they had The Carol Burnett Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Bob Newhart Show. ABC had some good shows too, but overall I think CBS was the better of the two.
