Sad Disappoint in Mary Tylor Moore!

Members and Moderator,

I was watching DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW several years ago -- and saw that Mary Tyler 'Tylor' Moore was a guest. David Letterman asked what she like better about today television vs yesterday television. Mary replied I can use 'F-ck.' After that I lost all respect for Mary Tylor Moore.

I am a Christian 'Methodist.'

I totally agree with what you say. I can see why you would lose respect for a person who would do something like that. I'm kinda stunned myself. Don't get me wrong. I know people do that, you just wouldn't expect a person whose introduced to the world characters like Laura Petrie and Mary Richards to say a thing like that. What an awful thing.

I've heard this kind of thing from fans before. I'm one of Mary's biggest fans, but I have to disagree. I watched her host Saturday Night Live, in which she used a word I won't repeat, but it's a part of a man's body. While it shocked me, I never lost respect for her at all. Yes, it shocked me, but I got over it! I think that's what she was going for. She was doing it to have a little fun with her wholesome, girl-next-door image. You've got to keep in mind WHERE she said these things. On SNL and Letterman. These are places where what you say is not supposed to be taken seriously. That's just my 2 cents.

Was this word beeped out? Or did the Letterman show actually allow it to be spoken on the air?

It doesn't matter where she said that. There's no excuse for itt. People can get there point accross without the foul language, they just don't choose to because they think it makes them cool or something. I don't know, but I hate it when anyone talks like that. It is totally unneccesary. Definately unlady-like. And in a man's case, ungentlemanly. TOTALLY!!!

Well Agree with the comment above, however we can't control what a person says sometimes. I just wish they would.

That is disappointing because there are so many wonderful and nice sounding words that appeal to the ear. Just say "blue moon" aloud. I would have expected Mary to mention something about better salaries/options and opportunities for actresses. I still like the character of Mary in MTM.

I didn't see the David Letterman episode, but even if such a thing did occur, I think it shows one thing that fans forget: these are actors playing characters on fictional television shows. I admit, sometimes I do tend to confuse the character with the actor, but when you read an autobiagraphy, read a quote or see them on a talk show, sometimes the realization that the Person is not the Character can be like being hit with a brick! I do agree with one post, that she was probably having fun with her wholesome girl-next-door image. I also agree that it isn't neccessary to have to use the lousy language that seems to be the "norm" these days. But, it's a cruel world, and many of the manners and courtesies that once were expected and appreciated no longer seem to be missed. I will still watch MTM, because, hey, Mary, the character, is a person I would be proud to have as a friend. As for Mary the Person, I still admire her talent and such, (but I'll hope that she won't take the low road on future television appearances!)

I don't understand. Sure, the "F" word isn't really nice to say but even if she didnt say it , it still wouldn't make the world a better place to live anyway. And it's not like she hurt someone Just let people live god, mind your own buisness if she wants to use that kind of talk let her she's her own person.
