In episode #64, A Visit from Johann, Herman says, "Grandpa, what's the matter with you? That's no way for a self-respecting Republican to act!"

That line couldn't have been more false. In real life, Al Lewis was a left-wing Democrat (which is what I also so happen to be

).

I don't see any lie. Al Lewis was a democrat and Grandpa was a republican. What's the lie? Archie Bunker was a repubican and Carrol O'Connor was a democrat. One is a actor and the other a character.

And Archie was a huge bigot, Carrol in real life fought for minority rights and couldn't have been smarter - he had a masters degree in English (probably why he could slaughter it so well)!

I'm sure they made Grandpa a Republican because it was funny irony compared to being such an "unorthodox" family to everyone else.
