I was watching UM and wasn't really paying attention. Does anyone remeber the story of Glen and Betsie Hide the couple who tried to go through the Grand Canyon in the 1920's and dissaperaed. Then they say betsie was alive and says she killed her husband? Could someone help me and fill me in on the whole story?

Yeah. There was this guide who they went to who said that they shouldn't go down the canyon river without lifejackets, but they were both experienced swimmers. So they set out and were lost. No one knew what had happened until a group was setting out to go down the river again, led by a mysterious woman. The woman proclaimed one night while a man was telling the story of the Hydes that she was indeed Betsie, and that she had murdered Glen after an arguement. She didn't want to go down the river anymore, but he was going to force her to. Then the lady was contacted by police and she denied all of the claims.
On a strange footnote to the story, a set of bones not matching Glen Hyde (they compared the bones to a picture of his face) were found in a raft in the tour guide's house after he had died. They were determined to have been about the same height as Glen, and the bones had a single gunshot, the weapon used was made in the 20's, the same time Glen dissapeared. Glen's body has never been recovered, and the unidentified set of bones have yet to be identified. |

I really enjoy this segment!
I loved the part with the old lady claiming she was Bessie herself! I also really love when the show did period stories -- especially to see all the costumes. (UM had fantastic production values back then). I guess this is also why I really enjoy the Agatha Christie mystery segment (despite it being rather lame). |

Same deal with the Bermuda Triangle. People who know nothing about sailing go out to see the area without navigation or survival equipment or skills.

In comparison to other segments, this is one I don't remember seeing air too much over the years. |
