Default Which "New Class" Series Do You Like Better, 1 or 2?

Series 1 (Seasons 1-3) - 65 episodes
Robert Sutherland Telfer as Scott Erickson (episodes 1-13)
Isaac Lidsky as Weasel Wyzell (episodes 1-13)
Jonathan Angel as Tommy Deluca
Natalia Cigliuti as Lindsay Warner
Bianca Lawson as Megan Jones (episodes 1-39)
Bonnie Russavage as Vicki Needleman (episodes 1-13)
Dennis Haskins as Mr. Belding
Dustin Diamond as Screech Powers (episodes 14-65)
Christian Oliver as Brian Keller (episodes 14-39)
Spankee Rodgers as Bobby Wilson (episodes 14-39)
Sarah Lancaster as Rachel Meyers (episodes 14-65)
Richard Lee Jackson as Ryan Parker (episodes 40-65)
Salim Grant as R.J. Collins (episodes 40-65)
Samantha Becker as Maria Lopez (episodes 40-65)

Series 2 (Seasons 4-6) - 78 episodes
Richard Lee Jackson as Ryan Parker (episodes 1-52)
Anthony Harrell as Eric Little
Ben Gould as Nicky Farina
Lindsey McKeon as Katie Peterson
Samantha Becker as Maria Lopez
Sarah Lancaster as Rachel Meyers (episodes 1-26)
Dennis Haskins as Mr. Belding
Dustin Diamond as Screech Powers
Ashley Lynn Ca***na as Liz Miller (episodes 27-78)
Tom Wade Hunnington as Tony Dillon (episodes 53-78)

**************
I set it up, as if the syndication deal spilt the show in 2 parts. I count Seasons 6 & 7 as just one season.

In the first series, only Belding, Tommy and Lindsay are in every season. However in the second series, Belding, Eric, Nicky, Katie, Maria and Screech are in every season.

So which do you like better and which would you prefer to go into syndication, if there could only be one?

I prefer Series 1 better. One main reason was Megan Jones. I've always been attracted to her. Plus, comically, I like Bobby Wilson.

LOL, I didn't even know they had a character named "Maria Lopez"!

I pick Series 2 (Seasons 4-6). Aside from Tom Wade Huntington, I like every single cast member from those last 78 episodes, maybe because the cast changes were less frequent. I mentioned in the past how much I hate the first season, so that brings Series 1 down for me.

I don't know if I'll feel differently once I have the entire series on DVD. Right now, I've seen more of Series 1. I quit watching the show during it's fifth season. And I saw the series finale, and I didn't like Tom Wade Hunnington. I figure the second series would be the more popular one, since it had less cast changes, but I prefer the early years.

My favorite characters include: Weasel Wyzell, Tommy De Luca, Megan Jones, Brian Keller and Bobby Wilson. As you can see, they all exsist in the first series. Of course it's been a while since I've seen an episode from 4-6, but I remember liking Nicky Farina, he reminded me of Rider Strong.

Seasons 2 through 6 stick out the best for me, I remeber quite a few episodes from those years because I'd record the whole TNBC lineup occasionally.

After watching the season 2 dvd, I grew to like Bobby. I was sort of indifferent to that whole cast when it originally aired but I can see the appeal of his character. Eric, Ryan and Maria are all favorites of mine, so obviously I'm more into Series 2. Maybe part of it was that by that time it no longer seemed like they were trying to make copies of Zack, Slater, Kelly, Lisa, etc.

On the E! True Hollywood Story, Dennis Haskins seemed upset about the last season of "The New Class". He said the producers took certain liberties with the Belding and Screech characters. Since I didn't watch that season, do you know of any examples of that?

Actually both Dustin Diamond and Dennis Haskins didn't seem too enthused about talking about "The New Class".

That's the thing, I don't remember season 7 like I do the others, but to be honest, any time it was a Screech/Belding scene that didn't involve one of the students, I turned the volume down and waited for it to go to the next scene. That's how much I hated both (but especially Screech) by that time. I can't really think of any specific changes other than they were just doing more of that bumbling, slapstick type of stuff that just wasn't funny, only irritating.

I've been watching my season 2 DVD for the past couple days. That's why I'm in the mood to talk about the series so much. Right now, I have "Goodbye Bayside, Part 2" on in the background. I read on IMDB that they were only going to make two seasons. But were surprised with it's success and kept on bringing it back. I wonder if that's why the finale to season 2 was called "Goodbye Bayside" and why Zack, Slater and Lisa guest starred, trying to make the big finale.

What gets me about Belding is that he has a wife and son, and yet he spends all his time with the students. Even when they go on trips (Palisades Hills, Screech's Uncle's Ranch, etc.) he doesn't bring his family along.

I don't know if you remember the episode, but they finally had Mrs. Belding on one of the season 3 episodes of the New Class. I just finished watching the entire set last week, now I'm waiting for season 4 next month. Hopefully you'll be getting both sets sooner than later.

I love the new class and have watched it for year. But i never looked at as 2 series, but now that you point that out it is like 2 diffrent shows. I love the 1st 3 season because i loved Tommy & Lindsay. I always wished they could have been in the 4th season because after they left the show was not the same anymore. The hole feel and look of the show was not the same. so with that said I love series 1.

If i could have my had it my way i would have had a season with this as the cast. these are all my fav. charcters and i think would have made a great cast:

Jonathan Angel as Tommy Deluca
Natalia Cigliuti as Lindsay Warner
Sarah Lancaster as Rachel Meyers
Richard Lee Jackson as Ryan Parker
Samantha Becker as Maria Lopez
Ben Gould as Nicky Farina
and Dustin Diamond and Dennis Haskins

also I hate Rachel Meyers in season 4...because she just wasn't the same Rachel they made her chararter alot like Lindsay (the lead girl)

The season seven thing that Haskins was referring to was the fact that the producers turned Belding and Screech into complete idiots. Neither could function properly in reality. Screech would have never survived on his own and Belding couldn't and wouldn't have been a principal. It was complete physical, exaggerated comedy that dismissed the years leading up to it. It was horribly unfunny.

My favorite was the first series, by the way. By far. Season three, to me, was as good as any original season.

When I first watched the show, I was surprised when Tommy D and Lindsey left after three seasons. However, looking back, they were in 10th grade in season 1. So in the third season, they were seniors. I don't know if it was ever said that they were seniors, just by doing the math, you realize. That's why I split the show in two parts. Season three was the end of the "original" new class.

I have always looked at The New Class like this (what grade every kid was in every season and why the kids left after each season and why the show lasted for 7 years):

Season 1:
Scott, Weasel and Vicki are (seniors)
Megan is in (11th Grade)
Tommy, Lindsay and are in (10th Grade)

Season 2:
Megan, Brian and Bobby are (seniors)
Tommy, Lindsay are in (11th Grade)
Rachel is in (10th grade)

Season 3 (The Best Season!!!)
Tommy, Lindsay and R.J are (seniors)
Rachel is in (11th Grade)
Ryan is in (10 Grade)
Maria is in (9th Grade)

Season 4
Rachel is a (senior)
Ryan is in (11th Grade)
Maria, Eric, Nicky and Kaite are in (10th grade)

Season 5
Ryan is a (senior)
All the other kids are in (11th grade)

Season 6/7 (same year split into two seasons)
All the kids were (seniors)

As for the kids that only lasted one season, i just say that they were in thier serion year in that season! (may or may not be ture)
Scott Erickson
Weasel Wyzell
Vicki Needleman
Brian Keller
Bobby Wilson
R.J. Collins

Also I love how you look at the show as being 2 different series. I think that is a great way and I see it now!!! Because it's true, you have The "Orginal New Class" with Tommy and Lindsay and then "The New Class 2" with Maria, Nicky, Eric and Kaite!!! After season 3 the show was a completly different show...(I think)

cool

I always looked at it like this:

(of course nothing is official, either one of us could be right)

Season 1: 1993-94
Scott Erickson (10th grade)
Weasel Wyzell (10th grade)
Tommy De Luca (10th Grade)
Lindsay Warner (10th grade)
Megan Jones (10th grade)
Vicki Needleman (10th grade)

Season 2: 1994-95
Tommy De Luca (11th grade)
Lindsay Warner (11th grade)
Megan Jones (11th grade)
Bobby Wilson (11th grade)
Rachel Meyers (10th grade)
Brian Keller (10th grade)

Season 3: 1995-96
Tommy De Luca (12th grade)
Lindsay Warner (12th grade)
Rachel Meyers (11th grade)
Ryan Parker (10th grade)
R.J. Collins (10th grade)
Maria Lopez (9th grade)

Season 4: 1996-97
Rachel Meyers (12th grade)
Ryan Parker (11th grade)
Maria Lopez (10th grade)
Eric Little (10th grade)
Nicky Farina (10th grade)
Katie Peterson (10th grade)

Season 5: 1997-98
Ryan Parker (12th grade)
Maria Lopez (11th grade)
Eric Little (11th grade)
Nicky Farina (11th grade)
Katie Peterson (11th grade)
Liz Miller (11th grade)

Season 6: 1998-00
Maria Lopez (12th grade)
Eric Little (12th grade)
Nicky Farina (12th grade)
Katie Peterson (12th grade)
Liz Miller (12th grade)
Tony Dillon (12th grade)

That way the whole gang start off as 10th graders and in the final season, the gang are all in 12th grade. For the 1 season characters, it's not as important, what grade they're in. Such as R.J. I had a hard time placing a grade for him. And Vicki, could have been an 11th or 12th grader, because in real life, she was the oldest of the six. I made Bobby in the 11th grade, because he gave me the impression that he was in the same grade as Megan. example "I've been asking her out since the 7th grade." Made it sound like they were in the 7th grade together.
